My son is really interested in nyala and bushbuck. We have had some great hunts Africa, but we have never been anywhere that we could hunt nyala or bushbuck.

Any suggestions on who to hunt with for free range nyala and bushbuck??

Thanks!!

Northern Natal, RSA. Absolutely free range, high mountains and tough hunting. Lots of big Nyala and bushbuck. Hunt hard for ten days and you will have a shot at a 29-30 incher.
This area is where they originate. Anywhere else in RSA will be high fenced and originally transported from Natal.

Contact Evan Couzens, Umziki Hunting Safaris. He is one of the best guys out there. Also, Bayala safaris are real good too.

Mozambique. Hunted Coutada 11 with Zambeze Delta Safaris and was very happy. No fences at all. Great place for buffalo and other plains game as well.

I'm hunting with Venture South Outfitting on a free range concession in Kwa Zulu Natal in April.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get back.

In 2014 we hunted in South Africa's Eastern Cape, big Bushbuck and Nyala not to mention the Eastern cape Kudu were pretty tremendous as well. PM me if you'd like me to put you in touch.
Very reasonably priced.

Plus 3. And I've hunted and taken both in other areas as well, but Coutada 11 in Mozambique with Zambezi Delta Safaris is probably the best. Mark and Glen Haldane have been operating there for many years now.

I have hunted northern KZN, Zululand, the past 8 years and it has the best nyala and bushbuck in South Africa, with much of it being fully free range hunting. As Bill Collector mentioned Evan Couzens who is a very good guy and will get you onto some very good game. Also this year in RSA you will find some excellent pricing due to the exchange rate. Downside is there has been some very localized areas of Northern Natal that have not had good rains and the numbers are somewhat down. I have a couple places I can get you set up into the Northern KZN or I can help you get some questions answered. Last year I tied in a tiger fishing adventure that was just great fun and added immensely to the hunt.

If I wasn't hunting KZN for these trophies I would go into Mozambique, which is just across the border and a shot drive from the Northern Natal areas. Good Hunting.

Consider Coutada 11. Mokore safaris (the Duckworths) run a great operation.

Marty I think you meant Coutada 9 if you are referring to Mokore's area.

I've hunted the KZN twice. Got 2 of each. On both trips I saw a lot of bushbuck and Nyala. I hunted with Chamanzi Zulu safaris.

Has anyone ever hunted with Gary Kelly Safaris??

I've heard they take some really nice nyala in KZN.

We have chatted with them at the Houston Show this year. It seems like a quality outfit.

I HAVE HUNTED WITH TREVOR LAKE & LAKE SAFARIS OUT OF DURBAN AND HUNT IN THE KZN AREA ... ALL OPEN RANGE. GREAT NYALA AND SOME VERY NICE BUSHBUCKS.

Zimbabwe - You can not go wrong with Nuanetsi and Humani (RWS) in the SVC. Malapati would be another option.

Coutada 10 and 12 would be my first choice in mozambique.

Yep, if you want to see big ones go to Pafuri, Kruger National Park.

Bushbuck and Nyala compete so it's likely that one or the other will dominate in a particular area. In northern Natal/Zululand the Nyala is dominant in the wetter areas. Whereas up in the Limpopo drainage you will find the Bushbuck is common, under natural circumstances.

At Umkanyakude near Mfolozi Reserve, a 31 1/4" Nyala was darted this year. The world record came from the adjoining property which belongs to a Norwegian with Nokia money. There are few bushbuck in this area but Nyala are thick.

I have seen excellent bushbuck at Bubiana near West Nicholson and also up in Chirisa along the Sengwa River. No Nyala at either place.

I think your decision depends on what else you want to shoot ... for example Klipspringer or Waterbuck would send you to Limpopo drainage Zim side or RSA side; whereas Red Duiker or Reedbuck would tilt you towards Natal.
