Good day everyone,

My outfit doesn't offer Leopard hunting and I myself have never been on a Leopard hunt. I have however spent a lot of time with and seen many Leopard during my time in the Okavango, Botswana. I am absolutely fascinated with the animal and would hunt one in the future (Once my lotto ticket is called).

As anyone ever done a spot and stalk Leopard hunt? I am not talking about baiting or hunting with hounds (which are perfectly fine in my book). For example Out hunting for a Buffalo, Elephant or Plains Game, spotted a Leopard in the distance and went after it?

I would love to read the story!

Keep well.

Did this once one early morning with AR's Faisal in the Kafue. We got completely skunked by this big cat and he managed to loose us very easily in what looked to be fairly open country.

It is not really good practise as this cat was feeding on a bait and we made him wary of the whole set up. He then started feeding late at night and we never shot him.

I have had numerous occasions where I could have shot Leopard but never had a Leopard hunter in tow. However you need to first identify your cat as a large mature male first. This can be difficult to the unexperienced.

Not Africa, but Idaho, not Leopard but Mountain Lion. Hunting Elk with a friend we heard two cats fighting. We glassed them and then stalked to around 150 yards across a draw. It turned out that it was a pair discussing mating. Until that time I had always carried a cat tag when elk hunting. Tags aren't expensive and you "might" see a cat. I filled my tag that day and he's hanging in our barn. Because of this I have asked folks about the possibility of Leopard. Nobody wants to waste a quota on such long odds. Out and about you may occasionally see a cat but pretty slim chance to see one when you're hunting. Slim enough that a hunter wouldn't want to spend the daily rate anywhere in Africa on the chance.
