I received the 2003 Tanzania DVD yesterday and was wondering about the rifle you used? It is stainless with a synthetic stock and fluted barrel.....would you please tell me more about it? What action, chambering, stock etc?

Thanks!

GonHuntin,

This is a rifle I have built myself.

It has a Dakota 76 action, Dan Lilja 27" barrel and an MPI stock. It is pillar bedded on brass bedding blocks, as I did not have any of those aluminium blocks one can buy, so I made those myself.

It is chambered for our own wildcat, the 375/404. And on this hunt we used our own bullets too. We call them the Walterhog bullets.

They are lathe turned from copper rods, finished at 300 grains. We used some loads at around 2700 fps and some at around 2850 fps. Most of the animals you saw shot on the film were shot with the slower load.

This combination has worked so well, that I have already made the same bullets for our hunt next August.
