AdamsdjrAllen Cilliers reportedly has the best concession in the Caprivi according to a post from Karl Stumpfe. It must be a good area because he does not seem interested in selling a hunt. I contacted him about booking a bull ele hunt. He replied to my first email saying that he would get back to me after he completed a hunt he was on at time. I have tried to contact him a few times since and have not heard anything from him. I tried replying to the email he sent me first and also the one on his website. Looked like a great area and I wanted to book a hunt for myself and my son.

It is now THE AREA to hunt "Botswana Elephant"..there is another operator that has the other half of the NP that is probably just as good..Koos Pinnear/Hunt Namibia (I believe is the name)..I will try to find and post website.

That's just Allan. Rather independent, but a real nice guy when you get to know him. I've bow-hunted once with Allan and once with his son Wayne. Very nice family. Very good hunters.
Allan is one of the few white men who speak the bushman language. He tracks nearly as good as they do as well. I've not hunted elephant with him, but have wanted to.
He used to have a concession on the Kwando in the Caprivi, which should be excellent. He used to have a very good average on weight, but I know he concentrates on marketing in Europe and I suspect his average would have been higher if he had more hunters who were willing to work a bit harder.

boarkillerSo I read it he doesn't like Americans much
As you pointed out, Europeans are simply lazy, they just wanna shoot out of the truck
It has to do with the way they are in general. I grew up there I know
They have tradition but they don't have the guts, generally speaking.

jaegerfrankIf you read through the references in his webpage they seem pretty non-EU.

lavacaCome on Boarkiller, that really isn't fair, but now you will require me to use a lot more words.
What I said is Allan markets mostly in Europe. I don't know why; I never asked him. I don't think he dislikes Americans, we seemed to get along just fine.
My intent was not to call into question the hunting prowess of our European brethren. I simply recall one occasion, when I was hunting with Allan's son Wayne and did not expect to see Allan because his elephant hunt in the Caprivi was not supposed to end until after I was long gone.
Allan showed up half way into my hunt, his three European hunters had shot the first three legal bulls they encountered, against his advice, and flown home. Not saying all or even most European hunters are that way, but that trip alone would have improved his average if those three hunters had hunted, instead of shot the first available bull.
That's all I meant. Far more words than warranted. Didn't mean any offense and hope none was taken by anyone.
If it was, well, ... no, I'm not going to go there ...

hann1@boarkiller: "Europeans are simply lazy, they just wanna shoot out of the truck"
which is precisely the prejudice that we have of the americans

jkhunterAllan is a great guy and a top hunter, his knowledge of the bush its tops and comes from his years in National Parks,
He has one of the best Elephant hunting area and concession in Namibia; I know Thormahlen was trying to take over his areas,
Your Friend is in good hands,
As for the comment on Europeans v USA
most Namibians feel at home with Europeans as many of them speak German,
as Namibia has a long European History they do tend to like their own.

From my personal experience I have to strongly disagree with these statements.

MARK H. YOUNGWhen I worked with Adam we tried to do business with Alan but communications was always an issue. I think he has one of the best bow hunting opertions in Africa and he did have excellent areas in the Caprivi but I'm not sure what he has now. The impression that I have is that he is very good. Lots of great background as Chief Warden of Etosha.

It's been my experience that those who think otherwise are projecting their own inadequacies.

lavacaAs Mark said, Allan was the chief ranger/warden at Etosha for a number of years. He speaks the Bushman language. His stories about the war in Angola will keep you on the edge of your seat if you can coaxe him into talking about it.
This whole European/American thing is silly. I'm sorry I somehow provoked it.
I'd hunt elephant with Allan or Wayne any time.

discapNo expert here, but I just got back from the Caprivi hunting with Mike Kibble @ Progress Safari. Shot nice buff and really good sable. We almost got trampled by about 200 elephants. Mike is a great guy.

Congrats Bill..what area in the Caprivi were
you hunting?

discapAbout 45 minutes west of Katima. Mike has his permanent camp set up on an island on the ??? River? The hunting for buff, elephant and hippo is done by boat and slogging through the swamp. Pretty frightening for a first timer considering all the critters that want to kill you.
Best I can tell there are only two types of animals over there.
1. Those that want to kill you
2. Those that want to kill you and eat you
