Of the following countries, do all have cal. and energy requirements, as opposed to just cal. requirements to hunt DG?

1. Tanz.
2. Zim.
3. Zambia
4. Namibia
5. Moz.

I know Zim. has both, but what about the other countries?

MR, so Tanz. is just a cal. minimum, with no min. energy rating?

Tanzania stipulates minimum clibres for individual species and it's all printed on the back of the licence. I hope MR won't mind me correcting him slightly in that they have smaller minimums than 375 H&H for some DG species.

I haven't bothered to check my copies of the acts etc but if I remember correctly, leopard have a minimum of .270. Croc also have a fairly small minimum but I can't remember what it is...... might be 270 as well, but I'm not sure.

MD - There is no minimum energy requirement in Tanzania - at least, not that I am aware of.

Of the Big Four, I believe that Steve is correct as to leopard. But my understanding is that for lion, buffalo and elephant, the minimum is the .375 H&H Mag.

I believe that a lesser caliber (I want to say as small as a 6mm or .243) may be used for chui, but perhaps Steve can correct me if I am wrong on that.

I have never actually seen my hunting license while hunting in Tanzania. Most outfitters simplify things and stipulate that for DG you should bring at least a .375.

Of course, what is minimally legal and what is recommended or prudent can be two different things.

A few years back, I put together a table of mincalibers by country and published it on my website. You can find it here:

Used to be published on the Tanzanian Embassy site that they also required a minimum FPE requirement of something like 3900 Ft lbs.
