That is a beautiful buffalo. Cape buffalo right? How much did he weigh? What was the cartridge used to take him? Bear with me here. I'm running a fever right now and am having trouble keeping my thoughts together and my fingers hitting the right keys. Sand Creek November 29 1864

That's Walter and his buff. Don't know the caliber. Ask Saeed.

Whatever you do, don't ask Saeed about the size of the horns! He says he hunts with a rfile not a tape measure, but I agree with you, that is a huge buff. Peter. Alright, we told many stories about this buffalo, every single one of them had SOME truth in it. Let me try to tell the true story now. Might be a bit hard, after telling so many lies Walter wanted to shoot a buffalo, on his own terms. Walter has a very big heart, trouble is, it is not in tip top condition. The doctors have been at it a few times, with strict instructions to take it easy. So as we hunt together, I told him he can have the easy one. Walter being himself, he could not resist making fun of our PH Alan Vincent and his father, Roy. So he turns and says "with these two there is nothing easy. They are used to you, who can keep up with them for the whole day and part of the night too. I cannot. I remember the day when he took me to shoot that warthog, which we could see SLEEPING under a log not very far away. No, Roy has to make me walk. And walk, and walk for so many kilometers, then come back from the other side. Lucky for me that warthog must be in the same condition as me. All he wanted to do was sleep. And because I had my deadly Blaser, one shot sent him to the happy hunting grounds. This reminds me, why are you not allowing me to bring my blaser?" Me "Let us not start on that one now. Talk to Alan and see if he can find you and EASY buffalo" Walter "Are you listening Alan? Did you hear what the boss said? Find me an EASY buffalo" Alan "We will. Just make sure you hit it" Walter "I will. And if he runs after the shot I will give Saeed back his rifle so he can run after it and kill. He likes killing buffalo. If I had my Blaser the buffalo would be dead with one shot" So one morning we came across the tracks of 3 bulls. We stopped, and Alan, Roy, the trackers and game scout went off to find them. Walter and me stayed in the truck. As luck would have it, the bulls did not go very far, and were lying under some trees. One of the trackers came back to get us. I loaded the rifle and gave it to Walter, and took my video camera with me to record this earth shattering event! Walter hunting a buffalo! We had a great hunt - a bit long, but still fun. I think I would have shot that bull in less than half an hour from leaving the truck. Walter, of course, had to take about 3 hours. We could see this bull lying down about 50 yards away. We all could see the bull, except for Walter and Roy. And those are the two important individuals on this particular hunt. One is the shooter, and the other is the video cameraman. Alan put the shooting sticks up, I moved slightly to the side to get the bull into my view finder. The bull saw us, stood up, and gave Walter a perfect frontal shot. Walter fired, and the bull took off. Here where it got a bit confusing, and no two of us agreed on what eactly happened next. What I saw was; Alan was running after the disappearing buffalo, and Walter was trying to keep up with him. Walter tripped, and almost fell flat on his face. I managed to help stop his fall, at the same time taking my rifle back from him. This wasn't done to save Walter from injuring himself, it was to stop him falling on my rifle and breaking it! Somehow Walter and me managed to exchange rifle and video camera. Alan did not go far, and was standing looking back at us, calling for Walter to hurry up. I gave the rifle back to Walter, and he would not take it, saying "you go after it. I cannot run any more" Me "It is lying down THERE, here go finish it off" Walter takes the rifle, walks up to the dying bull, and put another bullet in it. Walter "You see Saeed, they did it again. They are trying to ruin my average. That buffalo was dead already, and they kept telling me to shoot it again" Me "Why did you shoot then?" Walter " He was twitching. And you told me before if the buffalo moves, shoot it" So everyone was happy, even Walter. All his complaints during the stalk have evaporated, and he was elated. When he got close to his bull, he said "MMMM, this is the BIGGEST buffalo I have ever shot" That got us thinking, so we hatched this plan to do an instant "photoshop". We told Walter to sit a few yards behind the buffalo, and pretend to have his hands on its body. I got behind the buffalo, hid myself, except for my hands, placed as you can see above. Alan had to manuever himself to get things right, and took the picture. Now you know the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. As far as I can remember.

And when you get your copy of the DVD's you can see exactly how it all happened. Even then the truth will be a bit fuzzy. Great stuff. Frank
