I am interested to know what people who are planning a mixed family safari would like to do in addition to hunting if there were coming to Zululand Northern Natal - South Africa
Also how many days they would allocate for additional activities

I see by the results that most people are limiting their choices to encompass about 15 days of holiday time.

I have a question to ask. Is this due to days off work being limited or budget constraints?
If the prices allowed for a longer hunting holiday (15 - 30 days) would that appeal to anyone?

I got back from RSA two weeks ago and hunted 5 days in NWP, which is really too short. I think for the dollars spent to get there 7 - 9 days of hunting shoudld be the minimum. We went to KZN near Hluhluwe, at Zulu Nyala Lodge for six days of photo safari and it was a blast. I would recommend that Lodge to anyone. Food and accomodations were first rate. We visited the Tembe Elephant Park which was a highlight to the trip. We toured Hluhluwe/Umfolozi National Park which was good. We did the St. Lucia Estuary and East Coast NP on the same day which was also awesome. We visited the Emdoneni Wild Cat Rehabilitation Centere which was very cool. And we bought $ 500 in school supplies and visited a Zulu village school and donated the supplies, which was a super treat and the teachers and kids were so excited. The kids sang to us and demonstrated traditional Zulu dancing.

I would love to return to KZN and hunt Nyala and bushbuck.

I think a quality experience needs 16 - 22 days (home to home)to get the real value of the base costs of doing the trip.

There is alot of history in RSA. I would make
time to see all I could.

Mighty Joe - It sounds like you had a jam packed session in Natal, you seem to have gotten all the best parts in. Glad you enjoyed it. Agreed on the length though. Did you initially book a shorter period due to cost or time constraints.

Invader - How would a tour of the battle fields appeal to you. If you leave Hlhuluwe and go West through the tribal areas there lie the battle fields of Blood River and Islandwana, also a bit further and slightly south lies Spioenkop. There are some great historians who specialise in replaying the battles from a vantage point where you can almost feel the intensity of the battle. It is also an interesting experience to stand on a hill top where you know many years before some brave soul was making his last stand as the enemy forces closed in around him.
One of my favourite stories is of two Boer fighters who became surrounded. They knew they were going to die but decided to go out fighting. They gathered up the rifles of their dead comrades and laid down such a barrage of fire that the British went into retreat, assuming that the Boer commandos had brought in reinforcements.
Anyway, please keep the comments coming, we take them seriously and will have something interesting for you to think about in the near future.
