... how long does it take to get the approved application FAXed back? I sent mine earlier last week (Tuesday, I think) and I'm just slightly concerned. When should I really start to panic... after two weeks? Three? I leave 27 Jul 05.

Just wondering. Not overly worried -- yet. Roll Eyes

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

I found the Dutch to be quite efficient and (once I got them all the right paperwork) it only took two days. Don't hesitate to call them, btw. The telephone number is right on the application and I believe the fellow who issues the permits is "Troomp" or something like that. Call me if you don't get it in a few days. They speak English very well and are as polite as your grandmother's best beau.

Roger that, Judge. If I don't get it by COB at work Friday, I'll give you a call. Much obliged.

Okay... I just called. Kind of scarey at first.

<< ring ring... ring ring... >>

Amsterdam Lady: "Rtqqpoeriouadlkcnvmerexpeccmeme?"
Me: bawling "Um... English please???"
Amsterdam Lady: "Yes, how may I help you?"
Me: Big Grin "Yes... I'm calling about the application I FAXed to transport a firearm on an airline."
Amsterdam Lady: "Yes, one moment, I will transfer you to that person."
Me: Big Grin
Amsterdam Guy: "Rtqqpoeriouadlkcnvmerexpeccmeme?"
Me: bawling "Um... English please???"
Amsterdam Guy: "Yes, how may I help you?"
Me: Big Grin "Yes, I'd like to check on the status of an application I FAXed to transport a firearm on KLM Airlines?"
Amsterdam Guy: "Yes sir... your name?"
Me: "Taylor."
Amsterdam Guy: "Yes... that name sounds familiar."
Me: Confused Eeker
Amsterdam Guy: "... Let me see here... yes... in Silvis?"
Me: Big Grin "Yes, Silvis, Illinois... that's me!"
Amsterdam Guy: "Yes... I see that it is completed. If you have a working FAX, you should get it today or tomorrow."
Me: jump "Oh, that's GREAT! THANK YOU!!! I'll keep checking the FAX machine! Thank you very much!"
Amsterdam Guy: "You're very welcome."
Me: "Okay... thanks very much... you have a good day... good bye."
Amsterdam Guy: "Good bye."

So... all in all... I feel better. Now... if the FAX machine here at work will just resist breaking down. eek2

I was just about to offer my help. It's only been two years and a couple of months since we left the Netherlands, and even though my son has an English accent in his Dutch these days that will scare the hoot out of his visiting grandparents tomorrow, I can still impersonate a Dutchman in my sleep. Should you run into a snag and you need a Dutch-speaking individual to help you out, just gimme a hollar.

I believe it is necessary... not for the Dutch, but because NWA says it is (albeit, mistakenly). So.... I got one. Heck, it's free except for the fax call.

Well, after a LOT of (language) help from AR-regular Frans Diepstraten, I got my approval FAXed today!!!

jump

I had called NWA earlier this afternoon and the nice lady explained that I absolutely, positively, had to have this paperwork. No paperwork-y, no rifle-y.

Anyway, I finally got it! Thanks, Frans, for everything!!!!!! clap clap clap

We've been doing this for the past six years as there actually has been a rule about it but it hadn't been enforced. The folks over there are super nice and easy to deal with it. This is one of those little things that I think whether it is or isn't officially required, why risk ruining a trip of a lifetime on something so easily done. Better to have and not need than need and not have!
