The outfit weighed the 2 mt nyala taken in Odo Bulo in early April. Surprizingly (at least to me) the two bulls were within a few pounds of each other and a bit over 770 lbs. That's about 150 lbs more than I anticipated. The Mt. Nyala we used to take in the high heather were more like the weight I was guessing. Rich Elliott Rich Elliott Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris

That really suprises me. I'd always thought of them as 500-600 lb. animals. At 770, that puts them up there with the biggest of the antelopes, save eland. Also, they are cheaper by the pound now.

Rich, were those two Mt. Nyala extraordinarily large-bodied, above average or just average? Those weights seem huge to me, too, but what do I know? Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Nope, they are just like the rest we've been taking. Here's one from the same area........ It's lying at a bit of an angle but you can still see that it's a beefy critter. Rich Elliott Rich Elliott Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris
