Angola: Ministries on Joint Hunting Tourism
11 October 2013

The Ministries of Environment and Tourism are working on collection of contributions from domestic, foreign business people, tourist operators and partners toward boosting game tourism in the national parks of Angola.

The practice model of hunting tourism was presented Friday in Luanda during a ceremony chaired by the incumbent ministers of Environment, Fátima Jardim, and Tourism, Pedro Mutindi.

The two sectors have shared strategies that enable the start of hunting ecotourism and tourism at national parks, based on sustainable development and reproduction of the species in previously defined areas.

The project is part of the strategies to combat hunger and poverty, mainly among the communities living near the national parks.

It is expected that the initiative generate jobs, various infrastructures, in addition to enhance and protect the fauna and flora.

The event, which is also being attended by national directors, consultants and specialists from both Ministries, allowed to exchange experiences with entrepreneurs of other countries, such as China , which has long invested in hunting tourism and ecotourism.

The hunting tourism is a practice that involves wildlife observation, business and sports game by domestic and foreign entities duly authorised and in areas previously defined.

One can cure:

Lack of knowledge – by instruction. Lack of skills – by practice. Lack of experience – by time doing it.

One cannot cure:

Stupidity – nothing helps! Anti hunting sentiments – nothing helps! Put-‘n-Take Outfitters – money rules!

My very long ago ancestors needed and loved to eat meat. Today I still hunt!

I think I feel a little dizzy. Rational thought and hunting? It must be too good to be true.

Exchange ideas with entrepreneurs from China???? That doesn't sound like great news for the hunting industry.

Oh yeah! They have great expertise in organising hunts, especially DG as in 'phants and rhino.
As an aside, you must see an extended Chinese family clean up the sea-side. After they have laboured on the rocks, there is none of that cruddy stuff like sea-weed, moluscs or heaven forbid, anything that resembles crustacea. Clean man, clean, just a damp desert is left behind. Roll Eyes Cool

????????? Confused

Perhaps they meant ivory poaching and third world country natural resource exploitation?

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Angola was a great safari destination during Jack O'connor's time and maybe it will be again.

Let's just hope Chinamen won't move in, but most likely they will.
They are smart, they take and they don't tell these countries what to do

Now why would a country with incredible agricultural potential and oil wealth, managed by a government committed to a socialist (even Marxist) doctrine, have hunger and poverty?

Oh boy Russ.
You said it. I grew up in Commie country and I always wondered about that. Maybe they wouldn't let us across the border - Iron curtain, because we would see all the hunger and poverty and starving in Western Europe.
I think some operators are still trying to open Angola, but as we all know, biggest obstacle is always the corruption in Africa and you grease one hand and five more hands wanna be greased as well.
Not much ever gets to locals.
Sad state of affairs.
