Lions maul farmworker July 27 2010 at 06:40AM By Kristen van Schie A man is in a serious condition after being attacked by lions on a private farm near Kransfontein in the eastern Free State. Farm employee Ronnie Odendaal, 62, is thought to have entered the animals' cage to feed them, when they attacked him. He sustained serious scratches and bites to his back, legs and face. Paramedics stabilised the man on the scene before transporting him to the Hoogland Medi-Clinic in Bethlehem. On Monday afternoon, hospital spokeswoman Karien Collett said Odendaal was conscious and in a stable condition. He was due to have surgery last night. "Revenge of the Canned Lion" "...entered the animals' cage to feed them...." Just goes to show that these lions are under normal circumstances relatively tame - this time something must have irritated one of them to no end for it to bite the hand that feeds it.

So we can put people on the moon but can't arrange a method of feeding lions without some poor sap having to go in the cage with an arm full of meat?

That would be an understatment wouldn't it. ------------------------------ A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Some posters here had me thinking any lion behind a fence was as tame as a lap kitty, I guess this will open their eyes.

you really would think they would have a plan to feed the lions without going into the pen/exposing feeder to the lions.... I have NO experience with feeding lions...... I have raised bobcats though and had the same, smaller scale, problem. The cats were only a month old. The male was touchable when feeding, not so the female. She would place herself to be able to slap the snot out of your hand, giving me a good cut. The learning curve was quite steep, she countered every change I made until I made a food chute and just dropped the food down the chute from several feet away. Damn, she was FAST..... troy Birmingham, Al
