Just got notice of the new Africa hunting series by Buchanan Hunts on the Pursuit Channel. The title is "This is Africa", showing on Thur. Jan.3 at 7:30 PM. I would think that is Eastern but not sure. From what Michelle and Andy have said, this won't be another rack'em stack'em . I'm anxious to see what it will be like.

I have the Pursuit channel but it's almost unwatchable with all the deer farming and backslapping, high five, 800 yard shot shows.

I'll try to check out that show when it comes on.

Years ago we had the OUTDOOR CHANEL.

I gave up trying to watch anything on there because of things like you mention.

Reality has gone out of the window, replaced by Hollywood stupidity!

One of the worst shows I remember was done by tall guy who was an utter idiot.

No idea.

But he was doing all sorts of deer hunting shows, with bows as well.

I gave up on hunting shows many years ago when they sold them on DVDs.

We had the non stop stupidity of Mark Sullivan and his non stop buffalo charges.

We had some clueless woman describing the hunt in a sexy voice like “JOHN is world famous hunter. He using a 460 Weatherby Magnum. The most power rifle made in the world. He stalking a buffalo. The buffalo is the most dangerous game animal in the world. JOHN is now aiming at the buffalo. The buffalo is unaware of the world famous hunter is getting close to it. If John is not successful in killing the buffalo. The buffalo will surely live to its name and kill JOHN”

This is all being said while you are watching some idiot trying to get close to a farm bred buffalo, if you look carefully you can see the wound on it ears where they had removed the ear tag! clap

You have hunted long enough, and I have no doubt you have seen plenty of what I mean.

That have absolutely no relation to what you have encountered on your own hunts.

Very amusing in a very sad sort of way. clap

For some reason I started looking up the old "American Sportsman" shows on YouTube. Those seriously were great, no sponsorships, people out enjoying all of the experience.... not just the catch or kill!

The tall idiot I recall is Jim Burnworth. His shows are simply stupid. He is one of those guys that calls Mexico "Old Mexico" which it is not, it is simply Mexico. He had a partner for a while and they seemed to hunt with Quagga safaris in SA and if you had been to Africa only one time, you could see how much they did not know. Was that the guy Saeed?

No idea what his name was.

But he was the sort of idiot who was most definitely not a credit to our sport.

Reminded me of a mini Mark Sullivan! rotflmo

It is the Hollywood mentality.

Alright to make things a bit different than in real life.

Trouble starts once these idiots start believing it themselves!

Mark Sullivan is a perfect example of this! rotflmo

Each time I see one of these shows I cannot help laughing!

Those nutters think they are being clever. And the harder they try to show this the more stupid they prove to us how they really are.

“I give the buffalo a choice of how to die!” rotflmo

Utterly hilarious!

I like Jim Shockey's programs and watch them once in awhile. They are pretty good unless he has his kids featured. Then they get campy and too silly for me. Burnworth's program came on after which is where I saw some of it.

Another thing I find awful about hunting shows is the endless talking!

Sometimes one gets the feeling they are trying their best to convince a 5 year old child to do something!

And let us not forget all the silly blanking of any equipment the makers are not paying to advertise on the show.

Like on some Nikon sponsored shows when someone comes along with a Leupold for instance.

Leupold name is obliterated!

If anything, this draws more attention to it! rotflmo

I have looked through the Pursuit Channel guide on my TV through 10 January and looked on the Pursuit Channel website, this show does not appear on either.

I am looking forward to it but it doesn't appear to be scheduled yet.

Just as a tangent on this, Razor Dobbs Alive was on today and he was hunting both hippo and Cape Buffalo in SA with a 10mm handgun. no way this is sane and ethical in any sense of the word. Couldn't even do a stunt like this in any other country. This guy is over the top.

His wife is related to a friend of mine. We bumped into them one night at DSC. He was very quiet and reserved in person. The polar opposite of his on air persona.

He does a lot of crazy things with that 10mm.

It is not hunting if it is on a farm in South Africa!

Especially when it comes to dangerous game.

I would love to see him trying to shoot a broken horned old duggaboy living alone in the wild with his 10mm pistol. clap

This is what I keep saying.

Publicity hungry, stupid, self centered idiots.

Have absolutely no clue what hunting is.

It is all done for the camera! rotflmo

The two things I simply cannot abide is the constant back ground of Native chanting celebration sound track, and a back ground voice of a person who knows absolutely nothing about hunting, while an otherwise good stalk is taking place on the film.
I have no problem with some muted discussion of the hunters explaining what they are about to do, between the guide and client because that IS part of the hunt, but the blabbering noise is simply over the top, and in my opinion only ruins an otherwise good film!

Most of the TV shows are simply a staged crap.

I just watched the show that I found to my surprise on Pursuit listed earlier than the Thursday, Jan 3 time slot. It was their first show and overall I thought it was well done. High-quality video, good storyline, and dialog were well done. No backslapping bullshit just good ethical hunting that shows an infectious enthusiasm. The hosts seem to have a good on camera connection with the audience...well done.

Ever since the Verizon management dicks removed all the outdoor shows like Sportsman, and Outdoor we have been starved for some good shows. Most of the crap on Pursuit is exactly what I don't want to watch. Just recently, I recorded about 10 different shows just looking for something to feed my addition to the outdoor and shooting sports and deleted all of them in a space of about 30 minutes scrolling through the first 5-10 minutes of each show...

BigBear, If you lived in west Texas you would understand why the phrase "OLD MEXICO" would make some sense to you, because if you drive north a short distance you will be in "NEW MEXICO" If you drive the same distance to the south you will be in "OLD MEXICO"! So if you say simply I'm going to Mexico, you will asked WHICH ONE, OLD or NEW?

Bloody hell!

Are we having that stupid idiot Mark Sullivan’s behavior resurrected now that he has become so irrelevant and sunk to illegal hunting farm grown buffalo in South Africa??

I sincerely hope not.

Over dramatize everything?? Confused

Why??

How difficult is it to make just an ordinary, normal hunting video?

If you want to know how to make a great hunting video you only need to watch one of Rainer Josch's Buffalo Hunters videos. The Selous video was particularly good.
