Good rifle? All depends. This is Winchester's budget model lower end fit and finish.

Nothing wrong with a "blind" magazine. My question would be how well does it shoot.

If it shoots 1 1/8 at 100 yds, I'd call it good.

Now , did u get a good deal? Depnds on what u paid for it. But that doesn't determine whether it is a good rifle.

The best I get out of it is 2 inches, have a problem with the bedding, there is a big riff in the middle of the barrel channel, and a high spot near the end of the stock. It have a big gap on the right hand of the barrel but the wood touches the left hand side, think I will remove some wood

Flip, in your place, I'd get the rifle restocked and bedded in a quality replacement synthetic, like McMillan, HS-Precision and the like. Of course, this only applies if you made a good deal on the rifle, so much so that it is still reasonable to invest in it (a new, quality barrel might come next on the list). If not, try and sell it for the price you paid. Having been there and done that, I know you'll never be satisfied with its present condition.

Flip, has it got that weird thermoplastic goo they pass off as bedding? If so gouge it out and replace with acragel. Pillar bed the action and free float the barrel, 'cept for the first 3 inches.

If you can get someone to turn you the pillars the job is a doddle.

It should be a good shooter if the barrel is OK.

I've done this before you can e-mail me off-line at pmillan@angloplat.com

Cheers

Pete
