Hunting Late November Early December..RSA

It probably depends on where in RSA you will be. My wife and I hunted in Zululand near Pongola over the week of Thanksgiving in 2009 and had a great time. We had some cool wet days and some warm sunny days while we were there. The best thing about hunting that late was that the fishing was fantastic. If I remember correctly we saved about $ 800 on airfare because this is the low season. I would hunt in November again if I had the chance.

Quite hot and can be raining a lot. Hunting would most likely be confined to early and late as the heat is too intense during midday for most hunters, especially family members. Trophies tend to spoil quickly so consider that as well. Add humidity and you get the picture. If I had no other choice but that time, I'd take the time and let your PH guide you to parks, tours and just make it a family vacation.

Dan, I hunt RSA in the Limpopo every December and January with Shiawela Safaris. They're elevated quite a bit and the heat really isn't a problem during that time. It does get hot during the middle of the day, but we're usually in eating lunch and taking a nap during that time anyway. The good thing about that time of year is that you can start early and end late, giving you much more time to hunt during the daylight hours. My wife and I also really enjoy the green bush, wildflowers and baby animals that most hunters hunting in the regular season never get to see. It gives you a totally different perspective to see the bush green. And as far as it being too thick...it really hasn't proven to be much of a hinderance for us. 7 of us killed 25 animals on our last trip lasting 9 days in Dec and Jan. You will get some afternoon rains, but that really hasnt been much of a problem for us either over the last few years we've been on this schedule. Give it a try. I think you'll like it.

Some of the good animals we found on a hunt Dec just after Christmas till January a few days after new years 2009-2010. So yes when you are prepared to work a bit harder as everything is thick and green you can still get very good success.
