BearCountry953Hunting Late November Early December..RSA
I am thinking about going back to RSA with the family and we have some time Novemeber 23-through December 3. Is it a bad time of year?...Is it to hot?..Opinion?
Thanks
Dan
It probably depends on where in RSA you will be. My wife and I hunted in Zululand near Pongola over the week of Thanksgiving in 2009 and had a great time. We had some cool wet days and some warm sunny days while we were there. The best thing about hunting that late was that the fishing was fantastic. If I remember correctly we saved about $ 800 on airfare because this is the low season. I would hunt in November again if I had the chance.

L. David KeithQuite hot and can be raining a lot. Hunting would most likely be confined to early and late as the heat is too intense during midday for most hunters, especially family members. Trophies tend to spoil quickly so consider that as well. Add humidity and you get the picture. If I had no other choice but that time, I'd take the time and let your PH guide you to parks, tours and just make it a family vacation.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

shakariJA has it right. A lot depends on where you hunt.
The Cape has it's own weather patterns to the rest of RSA and he's also bang on about the fishing in the Pongolapoort/Jozini dam.

Stephen GoldfinchDan, I hunt RSA in the Limpopo every December and January with Shiawela Safaris. They're elevated quite a bit and the heat really isn't a problem during that time. It does get hot during the middle of the day, but we're usually in eating lunch and taking a nap during that time anyway. The good thing about that time of year is that you can start early and end late, giving you much more time to hunt during the daylight hours. My wife and I also really enjoy the green bush, wildflowers and baby animals that most hunters hunting in the regular season never get to see. It gives you a totally different perspective to see the bush green. And as far as it being too thick...it really hasn't proven to be much of a hinderance for us. 7 of us killed 25 animals on our last trip lasting 9 days in Dec and Jan. You will get some afternoon rains, but that really hasnt been much of a problem for us either over the last few years we've been on this schedule. Give it a try. I think you'll like it.

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.
