Howdy, up late did some google searches and this seemed to be the best Africa-hunting website.

The Wife wants to teach school at one of the International Schools in Africa.

I used the search engine and came up with quite a lot of negative aspects of living in Africa.

Anyone teaching school in Arusha, Cape Town, Dar, Windhoek, Lusaka or Gaborone?

There are other American/International schools we had thought of applying for jobs at, but I only speak English. She speaks 5 languages, so is at quite n advantage over me.

Any chance of getting a firearms permit or hunting license on those kinds of working visas?

Welcome to AR!

I think English is the national language of Namibia. When I was there, everyone I talked to spoke english.

I would think there is a way to have a firearms permit while you are there, not sure how though.

Send me a email as my wife works at the AIS of Lusaka.

Gun import is no problem on work permit.

I am a Deputy Principal in a government school in South Africa, Pretoria, Gauteng.

I am a little in the dark about the negative aspects. You will need to be more specific.

The Language of teaching and learning in South Africa is mainly English and Afrikaans in the Urban areas. In the rural areas it might be a Black language but all grade 12 exam papers in Gauteng province is answered in the two mentioned languages.

My native Language Afrikaans are getting more and more pressure from Government(Language of the oppressor). The school I am teaching at started of as an Afrikaans school but since 1994 it has completely changed into an English school.

I presume that all international school in South Africa will teach in English.

Hope my comments was of some help.

PM me if you want more info.

I spent a bit of time in and around Arusha earlier this year. I was very impressed by the students all headed to and from school. They all wore uniforms and appeared neat, tidy and well-groomed. They also appeared well-behaved, considering they are school children; and all seemed happy to be going to school.

Very much different than here in the states. No tacky T-shirts, droopy jeans, short skirts, etc.

Have been to Windhoek a couple of times but don't know anything about the schools. I thought Arusha and Windhoek were very nice.

Personally, I wouldn't want to live in Dar. It's just another big city. Never been to the other places.

You don't say what languages your wife speaks. That could make a difference in her choice. If she wants to go, I'd do it and enjoy your self. You can learn the language when you get there. Good luck.

If Tanzania is of interest to your wife try the following:

1. International School of Tanganyika Ltd. (Dar es Salaam)
2. St. Constantine's International School (Arusha).

Both are English medium.

While living in Windhoek our kids went ot our church school but there was an international school.

It had a good reputation. I had rifles with me while I was there. That was 1999-2003
