Looking for a late season hunt for trophy elephant or buffalo.
I’m looking to book (for me) a late season hunt for elephant and/or buffalo, or maybe even lion.

I just had a 2 month overseas work project deferred to 2025.

Best times would be from august to early November.

Thanks!!!

We have a great Buff special with That's Africa Safaris in Mozambique, 7 days total, 5 hunting days, trophy fee included for 12,500$. Valie Enslin is the PH. I went last October and had a great time.

Reach out to Charl Van Rooyen at Infinito Safaris. He is a regular here.

He could probably accommodate you in his Tanzanian concession.

You might also have a little better luck posting this in the hunts for sale section. A lot of WTB a hunts get posted there as well.

Ask Mark about Upper Lupande as I doubt this concession has sold its quota as it has just been awarded

After a discussion I had with Mark last week, this is what I would do. Mark told me about a few elephant bulls Johnny has reported seeing, and sent me pictures of a few spectacular lions. Check out Mark’s quick report on the hunt reports forum about their first safari of the season. It was pretty outstanding.

"Late season" hunts are not applicable to Tanzania as game quota is not "sold" to the outfitter/concession owner as in some other African states, but rather on a "pay as you shoot" against an allocated quota for the area.

Correct, but you can only "pay and shoot" what you have on quota correct?

So, I get 20 Buffalo and I sell 18 a year (my own imposed quota). Then when I have a cancellation, or if a hunter moves his hunt, then I have available. I think that is what Hasher tried to say.

I only hunt from 1 July to 31 October in Tanzania, so that is my "season". I always advertise and book these type of hunts as my "late season deals"

Isn't that what I said?

If you have 20 on quota and you "self impose" 18/20 it only means you have 2 still available on your allocated quota which haven't cost you a single red cent whether you shoot them or not. Big Grin (this is the beauty of hunting in Tanzania: shoot first, pay later).

You say your "season" is 1st July - 31st October?

The same applies to everyone else who hunts either SGR or the adjacent areas to the Reserve and further south as it is next to impossible to hunt the "wet" months, i.e. December through to July and July can also be a shitty month which obliges some outfitters to conduct their first hunt towards the end of July or beginning of August.

The prime months are realistically mid August (after the grass burning) to mid/late November after which the short rains come pouring in.

I think it was the OP TwicePipes who was looking for a late season hunt and likely accustomed to those countries where the outfitter pays for quota up front and finds himself stuck with unsold animals towards the end of the season and rather than ending up out of pocket, sells at a reduced price.

As far as TZ is concerned, the only economically favorable hunt which could come available is a cancellation hunt which offers reduced day rates.

That is what I know and I have been around quite a while. coffee

In Zambia the Operator has to utilize 60% of the value of his quota and therefore the cheaper hunts are offered late-season

In TZ, and you have been there, the minimum utilization is 40% of the allocated quota and also, in TZ the operator pays NOTHING up front, meaning he does NOT purchase quota.

"Late season" as in Aug to end November in TZ is actually prime time.

The operator has to pay the government 40% of the total quota value come hell or high water or he may lose the concession for failing to produce.

Bottom line: the operator has to ensure he has sufficient clients who will utilize no less than 40% of the allocated quota value and the way to go is to target the key species (high value). Wink

Good day sir

I can help you with a late season trophy elephant hunt, (12 days, trophy fee and drop off and pick up inclusive for USD 36 500) in the Caprivi.

Depending on the specific date, (availability from September to 30 November), myself or Wayne Cilliers or Fred Bezuidenhout would be the PH.

Expect a bull in the 40 to 55 lbs class, but no sliding scale if we are lucky and find a bigger one.
We may be able to buy out more quota for a buffalo as an add on as well...

Several guys on here has hunted elephant with me, so references happily provided.

Some elephants are available in Zambia and considering we are going through a drought then late season would be advantageous. In one Luangwa concession, I hunted last year the average was 55lbs
