Prices of buff and rhino in RSA?

On a broad average, what should a foreign client be paying for buff and rhino in RSA?
I realise it sounds like "how long is a piece of string?", but I am trying to advise an American hunting friend on what ballpark he could expect to pay for these. And while we are at it, a feel for day fees and minimum number of days.
Since I am not into dangerous game outfitting (yet!), I have no clue.

$650 per day plus $10,000 to $11,000 trophy fee on Buffalo and $2000 to $3500 for Hippo..Prices have jumped in the last year...Rhino I usually figure about $1200 per inch on the horn, but they too have probably gone to about $1500 per inch...The above is a rule of thumb and can veri to one degree or another....

Ray is pretty much right on with our prices. DG day fee is 700/day. Buff is 12,000 to 15,000 for a bull, 5,500 for a cow. Our rhino are at 1,200/ inch and we go from 21,000 to 39,000 for the rhino we currently have on our concessions.

I will ad though that the day fee setup is generally different in RSA. I can't speak for everyone of course, but for us and many other outfitters we associate with, we do not charge full dg dayfees for the whole trip. If you book 10 days with us, and it only takes 2 or 3 days to take your buff, that is all we hit you for on the dg fees. When you are hunting PG with us, we charge PG rates (275/day).

Rhino up to around 27 inches are going at around $1500 per inch . 28 and over starts getting ridiculous . There is a bull available at the moment with a 34 inch horn , and 32 inch base that is selling for $125 000 . Compares to paying $5000 for a baboon with 3 inch canines .

A reasonable outfitter will give you a 7 day all inclusive buffalo package for around $13 500 , with the option of adding on a few species of plains game .

I can offer a rhino on Mkuze for about $37000 all inclusive for a ten day hunt. This is quite a bit different hunt than what is offered on a typical ranch etc.

This is all a first class affair but the client should expect to do some crawling around in the thick brush to get his rhino.

Contact me anytime for more details.

Regards,

Mark

Thank you gentlemen! Isn’t that what one would expect of this board – prompt support! I sent this link to my friend / client for perusal. I realise that with offerings like these above, I might loose him as a client, though still retain him as a friend.
Well, “whatever is best for the client†they say.
Thanx,
Lochi.

Sometimes if you keep your hear to the ground and have your bags packed you can pick up some real good deals. Last week they had to shoot a old large buff cow and bull at Mabilingwe reserve as they were moving buff out and they were too old to sell. Mabilingwe being a big five reserve and quite large will let you feel at home in the middle of Africa and the prices R22 000 for the cow and R40 000 for the bull and that would have included two days stay.
And yes they are tame to vehicles but not too people on foot.

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.
