This past weekend, I flew out of Chicago Midway to San Diego, and the TSA agent there picked off my bag to have a look at all the strange shapes in there. It happened to be the bag I was taking to the SCI Chapter meeting, and I had lots of bullets etc in there. I watched him open the bag, and he looked around, and I said, "May I help you"? "Yes, he said, tell me more about going to Africa". It so happened, he was an avid Capstick reader, and I about signed him up to SCI. Gave him a copy of my Tip for Trips, and he was a happy camper. Wished us well, and away we went. By the way, it was my first time on South West Airlines, and I sure would do it again, saved lots of $$.

Terry, I have had some good ones too, they were very considerate and took my items for inspection right away. No snide remarks, no hassles. These guys were at the Flint airport. My bow case was destroyed by the TSA when I flew to Winnipeg last spring for a bear hunt. I think at the Minneapolis stop off is where they busted open my case. All of my gear arrived soaking wet in Winnipeg. I filed a claim, got a letter from them claiming receipt of my complaint. No word from them to this day, apparently it was ignored, their initial website no longer exists. At least the one I used for obtaining the form for filing the claim. I also never had problems with airport personnel in New York, but got some snotty ones in Atlanta on the return trip last year. The inspector got all hot and hostile about my 4457 form because the stamp was over a year old. He basically strip searched my rifle case. Later on, I found out their sniffer beagle missed some biltong I forgot about. It was an open package too. They sniffed everyone's baggage three times. I did not find my biltong until I unpacked a day later at home.

Everybody (and their dog ) knows you are not suppose to bring meat into the country, opened or not. You're just asking for it. Of course, the Canadian thing is what Canada has become. Too bad. The same is being attempted in the U.S.

Ann, I think the dogs are trained to sniff out fruit entering the country...I do not think processed meat can harm anyone... Mike

Mike, If they did that in San Francisco, all flights would be delayed.
