I'd like to hear your opinions on the quality of these actions and barrels. I saw there website and they had reasonable prices, so I thought maybe I should just buy a barreled action and have the rifle made to my specifications. It will probably cost more than any ruger RSM, but less than a Dakota 76. So what's the verdict on their barreled actions? Would anyone happen to know what it cost for a precision fit serengeti stock for one of these actions? How about a totally finished rifle ready to shoot using the Montana barreled action and serengeti stock? If it's reasonable, I may go this route. Thanks. Sevens

Sevens- You will want to review the Gunsmithing thread(s) as there are many posts there regarding the Montana M1999 action. I will recap for you my own conclusions: The action is an investment casting like a Ruger; in fact, the folks that do Ruger's does Montana's. It is a variation of a Model 70 Winchester Classic and a Model 98 Mauser; most noteably, this action retains the Mauser C Ring instead of the Model 70 "coned" breach. I felt that the action, represented a good value and as a result I own three of the actions; with a PH on order. Of the three actions I have in my present possession, I have one long magnum length action and two short actions suitable for a "short magnum" configuration. I am presently building a .300 WSM. My observation is that the fit and finish of the action itself is comparable to that of factory USRA's bearing the Winchester name, Remingtons, Rugers and the like. Maybe a little better. Like any action that you use as a basis of a custom rifle you can "do as much" and "spend as much" as one has the taste for. I believe the quality versus price trade off is a positive one for the consumer. I am satisfied with the product thusfar and will be able to report better information upon the completion of my rifle. Sevens, I have bought two of the actions, and my opinion after speaking with three gunsmiths who have worked with them is they are an excellent action for their price range. I don't use the MR barrels, so I can't comment there. I would say they represent good value, and CZ-USA is now selling them as their Model 3. If I was building a high-end custom rifle I would probably use something else that "balances" that idea. jim dodd
