The new application for temporary import of firearms is indeed 10 pages long. You can find a copy on our website in PDF format, follow the links from the homepage to "SAFARIS", then "TIPS AND TRAVEL ADVICE", and there you will find links to this form and the same forms for Zimbabwe and Namibia (both only 1 page long!).

While filling out the new form in advance might save you some time (and give you something to do on the plane), there is no telling whether it will actually save you any time or effort...the old one used to get chucked and they would fill out the permit directly from the firearms/documents presented.

I say, that's one bloody great form, what? Still and all, many thanks, old chap. I've saved it in Word so'll be able to have the wretched thing all typed out when I get there. By then, perhaps the constabulary will have gotten a bit tired of the whole thing and start actin' more reasonable, don'tcherknow.

What we heard on the news, is that foreign hunters can apply 21 day in advance for their temporary import licences. That is according to a statement issued by Supt Andrew Lesch. On the 1st of July there was about 62 temporary import licences issued. It do take longer than in the past but apparently there was no major hickups.

From a quick read through it seems that the fingerprints were only an issue if you could not read or understand the application.

Maybe everybody has to give fingerprints then

Bureaucracy at it's finest.

Notice! There is a space for the barrel serial number.
