Ladies and Gents, Yesterday, 23 Dec at 2PM we started the draw for the Limpopo Leopard tags for 2011. Out of 189 applicants 50 Lucky outfitters were granted permission to market Leopard hunts. Without boring you with too much detail the new system ensures.... ONLY 1 TAG per outfitter per region. If the outfitter wanted to apply for a tag in another area he must have a hunting right from the land owner, by way of SWORN statement. For every region the tags were drawn, PLUS a NUMERICAL back up list for unsucessful hunts. The outfitter must give on or before 31 March his clients detail, as well as the dates of the hunt. Failure to do so will result in the tag moving to the first person of the back up list. If the hunt was unseccesful the tag will be moved to the next person on the back up list. The draw was done in public at the Nature Conservation offices, and on insistance that the draw be made by some one from the industry, I personaly drew the numbers out of a box in open audience. We drew the tags per region, and then the back up list in numerical order. So, if you hunt your Leopard in Limpopo provinces, rests assure that your PH MUST be successful or else he and his boss will loose the tag, and will NOT get another chance to get one for 2011. So no unsucessful hunts to "harvests" day rates. Further, for the canned cat faterninty corner...A sample of every cat killed, will be sent to Nature conservation to determine if any drugs was administered into the cats system. I think people who think about canned Leopard hunting in SA as being a reality are not that well informed about Leopard hunting in SA. It is not the same as the LIONS!!!!! We have a very healthy Leopard population, and they move from farm to farm with impunity, the fences not bothering them at all. On AR, I can say ourselves and Chris Troskie got tags. I cannot remember anyone else, but there might be.
