Me - 20 to 30 paces

Clients- Not closer than 30 if I can help it and not over 75 unless it is wounded or had 50" horns and the client was a noted shot.

I would imagine the average first shot at a buffalo has been 50-60 yards or so.

I have shot one at 12 paces and one at 17 paces, and may be a handful at around 220-250 yards.

The majority have been between 70-120 yards.

I am happy with a buffalo anywhere from 20-100 yards. It all depends on the terrain you are in. But with clients it is usually 30-80 yards on the average

I take it we're talking first shot here? If so:-

The closest I had a client shoot one last year was 10 yards (in very thick bush).....in fact the bush was so thick we has a hell of a job getting the Buffalo out afterwards! and the furthest was about 60 or 70 yards......I would guess about 35-45 yards on average.

Two doesn't exactly qualify as high volume but my partner and I have shot four together at ranges from 20-120 yards. It was that long one out there that charged. Go figure.

Ha! What possible difference does it make? No guts, eh? Wink When you get up to 10 feet it's lots harder to miss! Smiler

Depends on the hunter and how well he shoots is the rule...Most Buff in Tanzania are shot from 50 to 100 yards...In Zimbabwe most are shot at under 50 yards as a rule..

I have shot them at 200 yards plus on more than a few ocassions on the big grassy open flats...
