Pronounced Shoshe.

Young Faisal and I were recently trying to pin down a man eating croc in the upper reaches of the Kafue and the monitoring scout turned out to be a good bugger that I used to anti poach with in Lunga Luswishi. A jovial chap named Daniel Chikumbi. I remember that both Daniel and Choshi were very hard individuals indeed and back then very good friends.

Their group was solely responsible for the remaining wildlife populations in the Lunga River region. Without them and the rest of the team there would be nothing left today.

Daniel told me a disturbing story that occurred two years ago to this date - December 2013. His scouts took on a Congolese faction of 15 individuals who were elephant poaching and a lengthy fire fight ensued. Sadly Choshi the front man and was viciously gunned down during the pursuit.

The end result (without detail) was the recovery of 6 AK 47s and 4 shotguns. The whole event obviously traumatised Daniel and for him it was a difficult story to tell. It would seem that Choshi's death was harrowing.

Choshi's family is now fairly impoverish and without income.

DSC has a fund that is dedicated to those who lives are taken in the field and does anyone here have a direct contact?

For a fuller story or verification you can contact Daniel direct - danielchikumbi@yahoo.com - note he has limited access to email and is currently in the field pursuing those who desecrate and destroy wildlife.

It seems that there are too many of these stories that do not see the light of day. If you tell me how to contribute Andrew, I will.

Many many thanks chaps but I just wonder if DSC will move on this? It is worth a try.

These scouts are on the front line and a little money goes a long way here. If I could raise a grand (and I am willing to chip in) then that would be awesome.

Let me try and locate the family and members of though Daniel.

You chaps are bloody amazing.

Have sent a message to Daniel to call me so that I can get in contact with Choshi's family and will try and get his wife into town.

Would some video of a US$ cash (counted) handout and a thank you be suffice? Or simple an exchange via Western Union?

hi everyone
thanks for highlighting this story and I know Daniel well - he is one of our main men in helping us with anti-poaching patrols - especially when my scouts have gathered intel and we do an operation that extends beyond private land. A huge thanks to everyone who has pledged to help in this situation. These men are often in the line of fire and every year we lose good men due to being shot by poachers.

Thank you all very much and this will make a huge difference to an impoverish rural family. It is not often our ZAWA scouts are killed in action and I very much appreciate your generosity.

I myself have had to recently call on their support and they responded immediately to what was a life threatening situation.

Andrew:

Got your bank info today. Plan to go to the bank tomorrow if something don't bend, break or tear or the creek don't rise.

Thanks.

OK chaps Daniel has got hold of Choshi's family and due to logistics I am asking Patsy Hahn to do the presentation.

Many many thanks to all that contributed to this courageous wildlife scout.
