I have just returned home from my second african safari. It was a huge success! I was this time hunting together with my brother Erik, my father and one of his buddies.

We were hunting the Nkanga River Conservation Area near Choma in Zambia, and the PH was Ian Bruce-Miller. It was a 8 days hunt, and I took 9 good animals. My list include: Common Reedbuck, Chobe Bushbuck, Licthenstein's Hartebeest, Oribi, Impala, Puku, Zebra, Kudu and Blue Wildebeest.

It turned out to be a very sporting hunt and it was a real challenge to find the game, since at this time of the year the scrub is really thick and the grass is high. But thanks to some really good game scouts and a lot of hard work we were well rewarded. In particular the bushbuck and the kudu were hard to get and will remain as some of my most dear trophies.

I didn't get my eland and my grysbuck this time. We saw plenty of small groups of eland, but didn't find any old bulls. We also saw lots of tracks from grysbuck around, but were just not lucky enough to see them in the high grass. It just means I have a good excuse to come back again next year...

I used my Remington 700 Safari in 416 Rem. Mag. for all the animals I took. I used two handloads, and both proved to be very lethal. On the Zebra and the Wildebeest I used a 350 gr. Barnes X bullet, and on all the rest I used a 410 gr. Woodleigh RN SN bullet. Both showed excellent bullet perfomance.

Ian and his daugheter Emma proved to be excellent hosts, and our stay simply couldn't have been more comfortable. The food was excellent, and we had plenty of it. I think I gained a few extra pounds of weight...
Their hospitality is simply outstanding - they make you feel like part of the family...

So at the moment I just can't think about anything else but to go back again! What am I doing here - Africa is waiting...

That's going to be all for now. I'll add some pictures later.

Is that a "Weatherby eyebrow"?

Nice bushbuck.

I think some of the small ones such as grysbok are more game of opportunity and can take many safaris.

Hi,
Nice trophies, the bushbuck has a really beatiful hide! The kudu is a true trophy!! How far did he strech the tape? By the way, that doesn't look like the zebras in RSA, is it the same variety as they have in Tanzania? I love the narrow and defined stripes...

Right, I got scoped while shooting the impala from the top of an anthill, guess it just culdn't have been avoided...

Just another scar to the collection. I still remember when I got each of them!

I really love that bushbuck. We were hunting for four days in the thick thornbushes before we finally found this guy. My Limpopo bushbuck from last year measured more, but still I wouldn't say it is a better trophy. I think all bushbuck are great trophies! I'll never get tired of hunting them...

You guys from Denmark are hell on us dial-up users when multiple pics are posted. All in all, you have a nice bag of trophies. Obviously, everything was just right. BTW, you and Jeffery Denmark can wear the same bandaid and be brothers under the bandaids.

If everything falls into place, I may be able to post pics next year on my first trip to the Big A.

Boghossian:

It was a really nice old bull. He had lost one ear due to fighting, and his horns were worn down. They measured a bit more than 53". When we were skinning him we found two buckshot pellets in the rearpart and another two buckshot pellets in the neck, indicating that this old bull had survived at least two close encounters with a poacher.

I think it is the same variety of zebra as they have in Tanzania.

Hi Tommy,

I posted a new thread ("Recovered X-Bullets ...") on the African Hunting forum to show the two recovered 350 grain .416 bullets (water buffalo) and a 300 grain .375 bullet (kudu). Thanks again for posting all the photos of your Zambia safari.
