Just a heads up. I thought some here may find this article of interest: “African Journeys: Hemingway’s Influence on the Life and Writings of Robert Ruark.†by John R Bittner, The Hemingway Review 21.2 (Spring 2002): 129-45. I've posted the entire article in the "Books And Videos Of Interest" forum. Here's the link to the thread: Hemingway and Ruark -Bob F.

Interesting read, Bob. Thanks. I was always under the impression the two writers didn't care for each other and were somewhat competitive. Obviously not! On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch... Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son! - Rudyard Kipling Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

There was a very good article about Ernest Hemingway in yesterday's Toronto Star. It was about Hemingway's involvement in the communist revolution in China. The story says he was there as a US spy but that the information he gathered was passed on to the Russian communists by a communist sympathizer in the Us government. The Star then goes on to glom on to Hemingway and his writing (he worked there) failing to mention that when he left the Star he wote them a 35 page Johny Paycheck letter telling them what he thought of them.
