It's a short video for folks who have not been on an African safari. Has a .577 NE kill shot.

I like the heavy bullbarrel on that rig it seems to have tamed the recoil pretty well.

Thanks to everyone for your posts.

376 steyr, Yes. the heavy barrel makes a big difference. The rifle weighs about 12 lbs. and my loads are pretty tame.

Great set up on the rifle.

Those shoes though !! Always wanted to see what happens when a charge forces evasive action and the feet get stabbed. How will that affect a PH ability ???

Pieter got chased by a young sick bull and he ran back to the bakkie in those sandals. That would have made a good video. I was surprised how fast he could go! He used to be a rugby player and he sure could weave though the mopani trees at full speed. chuckle. His sandals were broken in places and his big toes stuck out the front. He fought in the border wars in the bad old days and we kidded him about how he must have survived.
Pieter is am excellent PH with lots of DG experience. Appearances can be deceiving sometimes.

On the rifle, I had two switch barrels for it, one in 577 NE and one in 500-110 Winchester. (Custom chamber necked down to true .500) diameter.

I think that I should mention something about the video.
Some of you may have noticed some editing discrepancies but were too polite to say anything.
(Very kind of you!)

I portray the hunt in the video as just one hunt but the truth is, it is cobbled together scenes from four hunts that I enjoyed on the same farm in the same week. I got enough footage for home video memories but not near enough for a decent hunt video, fit for public consumption. I wasn't even going to try and make a video with the limited footage that I had, but an IMovie wizz helped cut and paste together the product you see.

On the hunt, we tried very hard for two and a half days to get me within 50 yds of an old buffalo cow for a good shot but I was always too slow on the shot. My excuse is that the buffalo were really spooky in the shifting spring winds.( This is the hunt where I tested the bullets on the four buffalo cows for my bullet test article posted elsewhere on AR.)

So, I surrendered (adapted) and killed all four cows from a hide at a waterhole. ( I have always frowned on that kind of buffalo hunting but came to really enjoy it and hope to try it again.)

You may notice some weird things in the video. You will see me carrying the rifle with a different scope at different times. It's a switch barrel rig. Oops! Also the cow that I am posing with at last light in the end of the video is not the big cow that appears in the .577NE kill shot from the previous morning.

I was of two minds about even posting the video. But I though what the hell. The seasoned hunters will be interested in the .577NE Kill shot and the newcomers may find it entertaining/ useful.

Like others, I tell the stories and show the photos/videos just for enjoyment. As Robert service said, "With seas of ink I spatter, May God forgive my literary sins, the other kind don't matter."

375er, It's one of those cheap old H&R 10 ga. shotguns. I had it re barrelled by the "barrel stub" method. I did the stock work.

I have used hard cast bullets for buffalo with it and they worked fine, but I am really pleased with Peregrine Bushmaster bullets and CEB bullets.
Next year I am taking a TC Encore barrelled in my custom .500-110 Winchester barrel made by MGM barrels with a Manson reamer, to mozambique for buffalo. Overall length of that rifle will be less than a "thuddy-thuddy" saddle gun.

How do yo like the high tech metal finish? It's lawn furniture paint! Chuckle. "Nothin's too good for a Canuck".

Thanks for taking interest.

Thanks for the editing explanation about the continuity blooper with instantaneous switching of scopes/barrels during the "stalk."
Now I need to check out everybody's shoes too!
Getting to the main point: That bullet impact was high on the shoulder near mid base of neck.
Did it get the spine too?
The old cow was paralyzed by the impact.
Just keeled over.
Well done.

RIP, Ya the bullet impact is the real deal. It did not hit the spine. But it broke the shoulder. the leg was disconnected.
700 gr. 577 NE, Terminal velocity of about 1,600 fps.

On another blog they really gave me hell for the bloopers. One guy did like the dove sounds however. I never had the nerve to tell him that it is a canned sound that I took off of Google. chuckle.

I hear that the Lowveld and Kruger park are very dry again. A lot of buffalo and wildebeest will parish.

Thanks for your post and question, Brian
