Wow Charles that was quick. I just got the image up there and decided to add a few details. Rifle is a CZ550 in 458 Win. Mag.

Were you completely pleased with the .458 performance? Seems everyone is pushing the Lott these days while I bought a Win Mag.

Did you take any other game?

Charles,
The 458 performed well for me. I shot the Hornady Interbond 500 grain soft and the Hornady 500 grain Solid. I shot the buff at about 75 yds. quartering away from me slightly (facing Right) and the bullet went in just behind the last rib angling toward the front. He ran about 75 yards and I put a solid in him from behind. We never found either bullet, but the soft did not exit. I also shot a cow buffalo and hit her much the same way. She stopped and stood there and turned toward us. I shot her again in the head with a solid. The cow was shot at about 30 yds. The load was 73 grains of H-4895 in Win. cases in front of a Fed 215 primer. The softs exit at about 2110 and the solids about 2150. It shoots about 2 in. groups at 100 yds.
I also shot a baboon, kudu and warthog along with the bull and cow buffalo. I was planning on shooting some other game but we had to hunt buff the full time to catch up with a bull. Hope this helps.
Doug

Doug,

That's a real nice buffalo. What outfit were you hunting with and who was your PH?

Nice bull, congrats!

Great Boss's, congrats on a successful hunt. Brings back my hunt like yesterday, with the rush that always goes with the flashbacks. Like all trophys, they are etched in the memory forever. beer

I may be wrong, but wasn't that private land prior to the land invasions? Can you tell us who controls the hunting rights now, and what safari company you went with? Thanks.

Doug,

The more I think about the area you hunted, Kana, the more I get a bad feeling. Wasn't the owner murdered by war vets? I am quite certain Kana was a seized private property. I think the owner was an American as well.

Did you hunt with Out of Africa? Who was the agent that booked your safari for you? Please tell us what you know.

Sadly, I believe you are not going to be able to recover your trophy. It's a nice buffalo and I am sure you paid good money for your hunt.

Ann,
It was the only hunt I've ever used a booking agent.

Magnumhunter:

Dittos on the congrats! I would not worry about getting your trophies out. I have three crates en route as we speak, and there are about 10 loaded up and ready to go in a week or two. Paperwork was no trouble. Great bosses on the buff! If you have taxidermy and/or shipping issues sorted out, terrific. If you want a suggestion or idea or two, PM me. I too, use a CZ, mine is in .416 Rigby. You obtained terrific penetration form your loads it sounds like. Thanks for the recipe.
