Dailynews Reporter Daily News; Saturday,June 28, 2008 @00:02 New wildlife management system coming The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism is finalizing process of amending the Wildlife Conservation Act, the National Assembly was told yesterday. The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Mr Ezekiel Maige, said this when answering supplementary question by Mgana Msindai (Iramba East-CCM). The legislator had wanted to know when the government would amend the law. Responding to Ms Magdalena Sakaya (Special Seat - CUF), the deputy Minister had earlier said the Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) have been established in 10 areas in the country. He named them as Ipole (Sikonge), Uyumbu (Urambo), Burunge (Babati), Ngarambe/Tapika (Rufiji) and Enduiment (Longido). Others are Ikona (Serengeti), Idodi/Pawaga (Iringa), Wami-Mbiki (Morogoro, Mvomero and Bagamoyo), Tunduru (Tunduru) and Songea (Namtumbo) Mr Maige said WMAs regulations of 2005 identified 16 pilot Wildlife Management Areas but six WMAs had not been operational.
