I hate to be a smart ass but send it to me because that is what I need to take my bride on a buff and plains game hunt. I will in return, supply you with the double prints of my hunt. If I had a spare $20K I would head to Tanz for buff and plains game. Go to SCI party with everyone and book a trip. The average man's love of liberty is nine-tenths imaginary. Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.  What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances. | |||

There are many hunts for 20K or less. If you want the hunt, I would suggest that you plan to do it sooner than later because the cost of hunting in Africa is increasing rapidly. Tanzania may get more expensive as the demand becomes higher due to problems in Zim and gun related issues in South Africa. | |||

John The Greek has it about right but I'd save some $'s and tan only part of one hide, use the savings to shoot a buff. Skip the plains game, for now at least. Bring back the buff horns though. The best trophy of any hunt is your memory. That cost nothing to bring home. Some good photos won't cost much. The stuff you tan or mount cost a bunch in dip and pack, shipping and mounting. If you must bring something home make it the horns and skull for a "European mount" Of course, for my recent trip I ignored my own advice. JPK  Free 500grains | |||

Do a Cape Buffalo, and Leopard hunt! Use the few PG as baits, for your leopard. I'd look into the Luangwa Valley for this hunt. The Buffalo are fine, and pleantiful, as are the Leopard there! There are a couple of PG species that are found no place else in Africa, like PUKU, and Cookson's wildebeast, and Impala, and zebra, are as thick as barnyard chickens for baits! If you are carefull you can do this hunt for the $20K or slightly more! I'd do alaska next yr. a brownie in june laz away the summer and take in the sites then go for caribou elk and moose. Anything worth doing is worth doing right the first time. | |||

Since I live in Alaska already and have killed everything up here, I would have to say go and do a buffalo, croc, hippo, hunt somewhere. Just take the rifle you have and enjoy yourself. I guess since I am spoiled from hunting in Alaska, I would say Africa is much more enjoyable! Good luck spending that $20,000. I would have to spend it paying off my debt, like mentioned at the beginning unfortunately! | |||

I wouldn't waste it on a rifle, at least not unless the hunting wasn't all that important. A rifle is just an object, we all have plenty of objects laying around. I would break it into two hunts, if you haven't been to hunt black bears in Alberta I would do that and shoot two bears. Quite a bit of bang for your buck there. Then I would do buff/plains game hunt and hopefully croc and hippo would be cheap enough to work that in. $20 sadly doesn't go as far as one would like. A plainsgame hunt in Namibia is about $10,000 door to door. It doesn't cost a lot more to hunt Buffalo in Tanzania or Zimbabwe. If you have never been to Australia, you could do a New Zealand red stag, fallow, tahr, chamois hunt then switch to OZ and hunt Buffalo and boar in the top end. That's $20K too. That's what I would do Water buffalo and boar and then head to Kiwi. Southern African beuracracy can really ruin a hunt. My job won't let me travel to Zim, Australia and New Zealand are paradise compared to Africa. But it's your $20K and you will know how to enjoy it wisely. A rifle isn't the answer, your killing off $8000 of your $20,000 for a rifle you will shoot twice. If you don't have a 375, 416, or 458 you can borrow one from the outfitter. I know a guy that has Dakotas as loaner rifles in Zim. And Bob Penfold in the NT of OZ has custom 458 Mausers. | |||

How foolish is this, a hunt will burn memories into your brain that the love for no rifle can ever match. That and when you pay your $10K for that Searcy and look at the Savage 110 like craftmanship you will hate yourself. | |||

John, I have 3 of them, they are all paid for and the cost of them hasn't kept me from hunting anything I wanted to. $8000 for a rifle you are going to fire two shots during a safari is ridiculous! I didn't even use my Blasers in Africa as they are in the states, and I was in Spain. All 3 of the Blasers I have purchased and still own cost $7000 together. While nothing is as nice as hunting with your own rifle, it beats the hell out of not hunting or compramising a hunt. I used my 20 year old 25-06 to take all the game I shot in Wyoming when I was home. About $30K worth of rifles were sitting in safe 50 miles away. I love nice guns, but choose between hunting or rifles and hunting will win every time. | |||

D99, I agree that one's financial priorities should favor hunting rather than weaponry. My above comment was more closely related to the cost/quality ratio of Blasers. I don't dislike the weapon (in fact a version in .416 really appeals to me)...but NOT for what they are asking. A bit like a Searcy in that way I think. JMHO, John | |||

John a Synthetic in 416 would be about $2100-2700 depending on what color the stock was. Wood would be $2500, and a Luxus would be $3500. Not cheap, but not quite criminal. $1000 for a 416 USRAC M70 built by monkeys is highway robbery. Its hard to remember all that goes into a Blaser: Titanium nitrated barrels or action depending on the model. 100% repeatable scope mounts. It's a take down bolt action, try and find one for under $3500. Wood quality is exceptional for the price. Wood upgrades are no-shit upgrades, Dakota could learn alot from Blaser. Accuracy is usually between 1.5-.75. If it's worse you didn't put it together correctly. Trigger is flawless. The plastic in the stock is almost twice as thick as the M700 synthetics. No tougher injection molded stock onthe market. So for $400 more than a MK Weatherby deluxe you can have all this. | |||

USANGU; I must comment on this one about the gun related issues in SA. I admit there has been issues when the law was implemented 1 July 2004. For now if the paper work is done correctly you will have no problem. I t could be a bit time consuming though. There are a couple of people who now does this beforehand and you get your permit in the post so you just sign at the police offices when you arrive; cost $80 - $100. Please gentlemen don't be mislead by the gun issue in South Africa! I fully agree with the statement of doing now because Tanzania is getting more expensive only from 2004 to 2005 there has been a substantial increase. That 20K will be an investment in yourself that you will never forget or regret. | |||
