Here is an E-mail I just recieved from hunter international in San Fran...the actual quote.

In order to facilitate clearance through customs, USDA and Fish & Wildlife, we kindly request that you complete and sign attached customs power of attorney and mail to our office.

If this is a recent hunt, you will receive an invoice from Mochaba after you advise them that you only require dipping and packing services. Once you send payment, they will begin the work and apply for the necessary cites permit. It will take at least 3 – 4 months to get the trophies ready to ship. Once packed, Leandre will send us copies of export documents for review. She will likewise advise shipping cost from Maun to San Francisco.

FYI, our clearing cost is $365.00 plus $30 for messenger fee = $395.00.

Additional charges are:

Airline fees such as import service charge (estimated $45) and storage (estimated $5 to $10 per 100 lbs per day).

Cites import fee of $56 assessed by Fish & Wildlife.

Delivery cost – predicated on the weight of the shipment.

We do not require payment until shipment arrives in San Francisco.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to receiving your completed/signed customs power of attorney.

Sincerely

I would call them...good luck Max

November 24, 2009 a box containing life-size Mountain Nyala skin and skull, life size hyena skin and skull, the bill is from Coppersmith in San Francisco.

Terminal charges $35
Storage charges $50
Bond to Customs $65
Cartage & Services $165
Customs entry services $100
Fish/Wildlife entry service $100
Messenger service $25
USDA Clear & exam $25
Security fee $7.50
CC Accounting fee $20.03

Total was $592.53

What I found amazing was Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris had these trophies processed and shipped out a month after the hunt and the shipping fee from Addis Ababa to San Francisco was only $360.

Here is my bill from Hunter International for 122 pounds of ivory

>>We are pleased to advise your hunting trophies were cleared thru USDA with no VS16.78 issued so you have the option to pick up your own crate as desired. Please note your shipment is still going thru Fish/Wildlife clearances afterwhich we will submit to Customs for its final clearance. Once clearances are complete your shipment will be ready for pick up. Before we can authorize release, payment for all charges is required. Please find below your final summary of charges and remit payment.

Final charges is as follows:

Brokerage Fee: $365.00
Airline ISC: 50.00
Messenger Fee: 25.00

Total: $440.00 <<

In addition-

$200 in airline storage fees

$312 Dip and pack Taxidermy Enterprises, Bulawayo

$1124.25 for freight and insurance

$2076.25 total.

At the time, it was just a few hundred here and there. Looking back, it's a lot of coin. But the ivory is home, intact, worth every penny.
