My trophies have been at JFK since 5/3/16. They should be arriving here soon. How do you guys measure your Kudu when you say you have a 53 incher, etc? Do you just measure the length using the outside raised rim or are you also adding the circumference of the base? I believe that is how SCI scores them? I would like to have both measurements, the length for conversation and the SCI official type score for myself. PA Bear Hunter, NRA Benefactor | ||

You can look it up, but when you see the "53 incher" that is the measure of the outside curl along the outside rim from base to tip SCI is Base plus length just like say a Whitetail. Two base measurements plus two length. Base is obvious and lengths are outside edge | |||

Starting at the base of the horn, measure the /follow the seam of the horn around the curves and when the seam finishes, from that point directly to the tip of the horn. Good! Do yourself a favor and leave the horns unmeasured - knowing the exact length should not influence your pride and enjoyment of hunting the kudu some time ago! Oh believe me he is one heck of a trophy! He only had one tooth in his mouth and it was loose. They figured he must have been about 15 years old. Most of the ivory tips were broken off as well. I am going to measure him though. One evening in the trophy room I commented to a different PH than I was hunting with about all of the nice Kudus on the wall. He told me that mine was much bigger than all of them and that my head and shoulder mount would end up being 5 feet high. PA Bear Hunter, NRA Benefactor | |||
