My own penetration test, on a 1 inch steel plate.

The only bullet that went through was the Speer Tungsten Core in 375 caliber.

Bigger and smaller calibers with various bullets, including mono like Barns X, never made it.

Did the entire bullet make it through the steel plate, or just the tungsten core?

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Awesome video. I think a .375 caliber 350g Barnes banded solid at 2550 fps fired from a 375 Weatherby would penetrate it as well. Bullet construction, sectional density, velocity makes the difference.

Chuck

If Viagra was involved it doesn’t count.

Now Chuck is really onto something! You could find the downed game with a geiger counter and if it gets dark perhaps they would have a nice glow.
Would SCI create a new category for those interested in this developement? It could be of interest to those who like to kneck-down a .50 BMG to .243 but have a problem with bullet disintegration.
Nothing would surprise me knowadays!

Penetration in animals is vastly different than in other media.

Even then, sometimes it makes you wonder.

Same bullet.

Same charge.

Same rifle.

Penetrates buffalo from rear leg, going forward, and stopping in the front of the chest.

Penetrates impala, which much small than buffalo. From neck to tail.

Penetrates lion, from shoulder point going back. Stops just ahead of his ball.

Now, all these animals vary in size quite a lot.

Draw your own conclusions.
