Does anyone have a detailed list of cost for a normal P.G. hunt S.A. I have booked a 14 day through Johansburg. Tips, Lodging, Meals and any other expense. I hunted Namibia several years ago and underestimated badly. Camp staff and time while not in camp.

Costs can very quite a bit depending on accomodation, cost of access (rental) to the hunt area, how good the PH thinks he is etc.. (Leopard PH's and DG hunts attract a premium day rate). Trophy fees can vary considerably too. If an animal is not native to an area (eg Sable in the Northern Province, then it may well cost a lot to keep that population healthy. A few more details may help. You 'have booked a 14 day through Johannesburg' what ?

Bill, You booked the hunt and now you want to know if you got a good deal? "Normal" could easily range from $250-$500 per day and TFs will dependent on what the operator has to pay for the animals. I don't think there is a normal. As for underestimating the total a reputable RSA operator will give you a to the penny quote plus a recommendation for tips. Mark MARK H. Billsan, I do have a reasonably well maintained and regularly updated database of prices published on web sites of hunting outfitters. By my guess the prices of well over 100 South African and a few Namibian hunting outfitters are quite up to date. The AR site does not do well when posting tables, so please send me a direct e-mail toandrew@mclarensafaris.com if you wish to get a summary of the statistics. In good hunting. Afton House is about $100-$120 per night. Steak dinner at Afton is $20. I would budget $30 to $120 on the meals elsewhere depending on whether you go alone or take your PH. If you have Afton clear your gun - $100. A couple to five buck here and there to those that help you out and the lady who cooks and serves your breakfast. As for souveniers, you can pick up bangles and other simple African items for as little as $5 each or you double the cost of the trip. On my last trip I ended up doing all my shopping in the international concourse and picked up World Cup jerseys and sweat shirts for $20-$40 each and a bag full of bracelets and pendants for about $5 to $10 each. On past trips I have spent a hell of of lot more though. As for tips, a search of this forum will yield plenty of opinions on the matter and some good rules of thumb. I would suggest you asking your PH about camp staff tips. "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why. what ever your cost is double it and you will come close to total cost is a fair rule of thumb
