I know this may not be the right forum for this, but this is where a lot of people will see it...moderator please move if needed. This is the real deal and DSC (along with other hunting organizations) is fighting to stop this...take a moment to make the call if you can.

Karl

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the Center for Biological Diversity and other organizations have recently filed a petition with the Department of the Interior (DOI) in which these groups seek to ban the use of lead ammunition on lands managed by the National Parks Service (NPS) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). HSUS, an avowed anti-hunting organization, has previously attempted to ban the use of lead ammunition by petitioning the Environmental Protection Agency. That effort failed.

Federal procedural practice allows for a public comment period, and the DOI invites citizens and organizations like the Dallas Safari Club to respond. DSC has signed a joint letter prepared by the Association of Wildlife Conservation Partners (DSC is a partner) that has been sent to the Honorable Sally Jewell, Secretary of the DOI, asserting a strong objection to the proposed ban. DSC believes the ban is improper for many reasons, including the following:

In the body of scientific literature on the use of traditional ammunition there is no proof that the use of lead ammunition to hunt large or small game has had any negative effect on wildlife.
There is not one single documented case in the US of a hunter having elevated blood lead levels, let alone lead poisoning, caused by consuming game harvested with traditional ammunition.
The effect of granting the Petitioners’ requested relief will be a flood of requests to extend the ban beyond the lands and applications in question in the current petition.
The cost to shooters, particularly recreational target shooters, would be prohibitive.
There are no adverse wildlife population impacts or public health concerns on NPS and FWS lands that require the drastic and unwarranted intervention that the petition seeks.

Please contact the DOI at 1-202/208-3100 to register your objection. Please feel free to state the basis for your objection.

Thank you for your support and for your help in preserving our wildlife heritage.

Chris Hudson,

President

Dallas Safari Club
