Yesterday we have been hired to do a big waterbuff culling for erradicate them due to mouth and foot desease concern. We have been using a Ruger N1 416 rigby on waterbuffs for some time, and lately we also have used a bolt one in the same caliber. We also plan to use a 300 winnie with solids for long shots in the open, and if we have luck maybe even a borrowed 338. Those with the two rigbys and a 9,3x62 will be our working tools. We are not allowed to take clients with us during these hunts and we will be paid per buffalo tail. Things in the future will calm down and we hope to do some trophy hunts again, but before we must cut a lot of tails to calm down sanitary authorities. A pity because a lot of meat will be waisted but if we don't do it someone else will do it. My two hunting buddies and I are the only ones hired, so I think we will learn something about bullets performance Does anyone want to do any load or bullet test?? If it's reasonable I will try it. And no, we don't have any 45-70 around..... L

I can't help you there right now but I will ask... It seems that only "clean buffs" will be able to roam around, how the hell they will do that no idea, maybe catching youngsters for vaccination and eleminating the old ones... L

Locally the government tried to start a hoof & mouth disease scare when some domestic animals with the disease showed up. They wanted the entire wild (feral) deer herds eradicated. The local deer hunting club helped shoot a cull of animals to be tested, with the results of not a single infection discovered. Wild pigs also can carry hoof and mouth disease. I bet they an erradicate the entire pig population. Same thing in the NT. The government, which hates all introduced animals, wantedwater buffalo exterminated and spent millions trying to shoot them out. Again the wild pig population can also carry the disease so it was just a justification for their other objectives anyway.
