Namibian $ vs. South African Rand, 1:1??
Dear All,

I seem to remember, that the Namibian Dollar (NAD) and the South African Rand (SAR) are traded on a 1:1 exchange rate???

In fact, I seem to recall having paid with SAR and having withdrawn SAR from ATMs the last time I was in Namibia. So SAR seems to be legal tender in Namibia, and whether you pay with SAR or NAD seems to make no difference. They are in effect 1:1.

I ask, because I need to find an exchange rate for NAD (from Swiss Franc), but only SAR shows up on my regular currency exchange resource.

Thanks very much in advance.

The one online that I've used in the past has the NAD and the Rand. The website is:

Hope this helps.

At least the last time to Namibia,.... they were 1 to 1, but Namibia accepted the Rand, but not the other way around. If you are going through SA, get or keep a few rand on you.

When I was in Namibia last year it was 1:1.

I arrange for my clients to get local exchange from our PH/Outfitter. That way they do not get charged fees. Last year the US banks were sticking us for R500 of each $1,000 USD. LDK
