Thaback,

Pigs are a hoot. And understand your perspective. Thanks.

Have to say "the back 40" has a point. Nothing gets the adrenalin going more than hunting armed men. Perhaps chasing poachers could be considered the biggest excitement in Africa, even more than wounded buffalo in the long grass.
Having said that, it would be nice if I never had to do either, ever again!

Pigs, of any sort.
I got no rush of any sort, hunting buff. Nothing gets the adrenalin going like hunting armed men as I did for a number of years. So the expense of dangerous game is not worth it.
Pigs are various and in many, many places, and typically not seen as a resource
You have put that into perspective and so-called dangerous game is a joke to what you have done

The pom, you know you are a lost cause when you look around the plane before you jump into a hot zone, and everyone is adjusting their "woody".

I've been lucky enough to hunt Buffalo, Elephant and many others offered by the dark continent. I started my hunting career hunting Squirrels and it is still my favorite hunt.

If your parents didn't have any children chances are you won't either.

I grew up hunting the little striped squirrels in India, with an air rifle. Great fun shooting them on the run in the giant Ficus Banyan trees.

For pure thrill and nostalgia I wish I was in the 1920 & 30 with Jim Corbet and hunting Man eating tigers.

I love hunting cats and buffalo, but I'll hunt 3-4 buffalo for every cat, so I'll stick with buffalo.

Elephant are definitely my overall favorite, but I’d probably say Buffalo if I could only hunt 1 type of animal.

If it were limited to North America, I would definitely say Elk, especially in the rut.

Go Duke!!

If I could only hunt one animal one last time, it would certainly be a lion. No doubt at all. The only critter that would trump it (Yikes, I hate even saying that word Frowner) would be a tiger.

I would defiantly have to say lion by tracking.

All right.

I’ve been resisting the impulse, but it’s become overwhelming because of recent scientific developments.

If push comes to shove on its impending rescue from extinction:

Woolly mammoth.

100%!

The question wasn't "if you had one last hunt" it was "if you could hunt for the rest of your life, but could only hunt one animal" what species would it be?

If I had only one hunt left, I'd like to hunt another elephant. But while it's hard to choose between cats and buffalo as to my most enjoyable animals to hunt, I'd have to say buffalo as there are more opportunities.

Agree with Samir about tracking lion. Have only done it once. Had a lion on ticket and bumped a pretty good looking one while trying to take a photo of a hawk. He growled a bit and took off. We tracked. Bumped him a couple of times. He growled each time. Finally, I had him in the cross hairs on sticks and my PH said, "I think he's six."
Not good enough. I let him walk. But it was an exciting hunt.

That’s just how I took it when I said Cape buffalo, too.

I also added perhaps extraneous factors like can I bring the tusks, horns or full body mount home?

We don’t live in an ideal or even halfway decent world, as far as this thing we love to do goes.

Mike,

While I want to bring my trophies home, that becomes less important the older I get. So I've hunted on the hope I can import and so far have been successful.

With apex animals, bringing home the trophies still matters a lot to me.

With an anti-regulation regime coming to power, I’m hoping the USF&WS - which in my view has gone rogue - can be brought to heel.

Then I may hunt elephant and lion again.

But, God willing, I will always chase buffalo.

I think USF&W is coming around. I had no problem with a lion and leopard from 2023 and I spoke with my taxidermist and he said that was his experience with not only cats, but elephants as well. I agree, it will only get better once Biden is gone.
