Do you use a "meet & Greet" firm to help you with gun registration at Joburg airport?

Yes!! I used riflepermits.com(cheaper than air 2000) to get my pre-approved permits done for my overnight stay in Joberg. A representative met me and walked me through the process in about 15 minutes, with most of that time waiting for my guns to show up in the police room.

There were about a dozen guys not using a service and it looked like a circus!!

No, I do it myself it is pretty easy I have never taken longer than about 30 minutes in the SAPS office. It is just your typical gov't red tape BS.

Good Hunting,

Some of you all may not know that Louis Afton, of Afton House in Joberg offers this service also. One of the good things (there are many) dealing with Louis Afton is that he has a San Antonio, Texas phone number that you can just dial him up. He also answers his e-mails promptly. I think that Louis is somewhat a legend among American hunters going to southern Africa and having to layover in Joberg.

I used Air2000 last May, and they were worth every cent of their fee! My rifles, and those of another hunter in our party did not get on the plane at DC, so we were faced with waiting for them in JoBerg. The Air2000 rep took over the hassles, verified my permits in order, and the second hunter as well, then sent us on our way. The rifles arrived at our camp the following evening after we had both enjoyed successful hunts with borrowed firearms. Air2000, and the "meet & greet" process is well worth it!

I just got back from my first hunting trip to South Africa (18 April 2008) and I had no problem whatsoever, I DID NOT use Hunter support Air 2000, I don't think it is needed. I hunted with "NTSHONALANGA SAFARIS" and they met me at the gate and escorted me right to the police firearms check area to pick up my rifle, the whole process took under 20 minutes. of course I did tip the representative $5. Other hunters that were on the flight with me that utilized hunters support 2000 were still in there doing there thing. Hunters support do however use an attractive female to hold your name on a board and escort you to the police firearms control area(that could be a plus). I guess it depends on your Safari Outfitter, mine was there from the time I got off the plane until they put me thru security when I departed. They even took me and my wife to a special curio shop where the prices where better in a secured compound so we didn't have to worry about our luggage or guncases.PM me if anyone needs info....like I said I just got back...and yes, it was hard to leave!!!!
