A friend of mine has a hair Salon, they use Sable hair brushes for makeup, etc.

Is this hair that is salvaged from capes from hunts or is there a poaching problem for this product.

Just found it odd that a highly sought trophy would have marketed produced products from it.
And thought I would ask on here.
Thanks

I think they're referring to the sable that belongs to the weasel family.

Because of its great expense, sable fur is typically integrated into various clothes fashions: to decorate collars, sleeves, hems and hats (see, for example the shtreimel). The so-called Kolinsky sable-hair brushes used for watercolor or oil painting are not manufactured from sable hair, but from that of the siberian weasel.

In reality, based on the fact that my mother once made photographic dusting brushes as a sideline, most such brushes are actually made with squirrel hair, which is a lot cheaper.

Let's see, we have brushes marketed as sable hair, when they are actually squirrel, weasel and other little furry critters. I'll double check the next time someone offers a Sable hunt as it might just be for something else Confused

I am sure if someone in the hunting industry tried this marketing ploy they would be strung up, especially here on AR. Wink
