I guess this is a pretty typical post, but anyway.. Smiler
I`m planning a hunt next year or 2007 for some RSA specialities: blesbok, bontebok, vaal rhebok, black wildebeest, cape bushbuck, cape grysbuck, southern, black and white springbuck.

Which area and outfitter will you suggest?
I guess Eastern Cape or KwaZulu Natal is the only possibilities for all in same area?

Anders,

I just hunted with Paul Schoeman of Gem Safaries near Graff-Reinet, Eastern Cape.

I had a great time and loved every second of it!

Vaal Rhebok are a specialty of his as well as klipspringer. He also has available on his farm blesbok, black wildebeeste, and all three species of springbok. He took me to the coast near Alexandria for cape bushbuck, and I am certain he can arrange bontebok too. I think he was arranging one for a future client when I was there in May.

See my write up on the hunt here.

Thanks trapdoor!
Looks like a great place and outfitter. Promising that vaal rhebok is a speciality, because it will be my no. 1 priority. Will look into it, and I might contact him to do some checkin`. Smiler
GREAT report, btw!

Looks good too!
Wanna make it a RSA speciality hunt. According to the African hunter II this is the nine species indigneous to RSA. I`m I right..?

http://www.blaauwkrantz.com/

From their web site:
"Blaauwkrantz Safaris is owned and operated by the Arthur Rudman family. Since 1978 Arthur & Trinette have welcomed international hunters to the greatest Kudu country in the world and home of the largest population of privately owned Kudu in Africa, their 50 000 acre malaria-free hunting estate, Blaauwkrantz, which is situated in South Africa's Eastern Cape! The Blaauwkrantz family pride themselves in the personal attention they are able to provide their clients. Blaauwkrantz Safaris is the gateway to 34 huntable species on Blaauwkrantz and the wider Eastern Cape. Their specialty are the Eastern Cape species, which include East Cape Kudu, Cape Grysbok, Springbok (Common, Black and White), Cape Bushbuck, Wildebeest (Blue and Black), Cape Eland, Vaal Rhebuck, Klipspringer, and many more. Caracal, Blue Duiker and Bushpig may be hunted with hounds and bird shooting and deep-sea fishing off Port Elizabeth can also be arranged."

I have seriously considered hunting here several times. I've spoken with them at the annual Houston Safari Club conventions during the past two or three years. I've just never booked a hunt with them but I have given them serious consideration.

Anders, I hunted with Jacques Fourie of Kikuyu Lodge in the Eastern Cape last year. Had a great time and would hunt with them again. There are a number of great outfitters in that area. My brother-in-law just got back from hunting with Blauukrantz Safaris in the Eastern Cape and had a great safari as well.

Anders, I hunted KwaZulu Natal this past April with Pierre' Van Tonder, he has several different concessions he hunts. We hunted right in the Drackensberg (sp?) Mountains. It was fantastic! We would start out in the plains and work our way right to the top of the mountains. It was hard work but I loved it. I dream about going back and hunting the Mountain Reedbuck and bushbuck that we saw but I didn't get a shot at. Send Ray Atkinson an e-mail he'll hook you up with Pierre'. Joe

Contact Ray Atkinson, and book with African Bushsveld. I've been there a couple times, and going back again in 2006.

I have hunted with Peter twice and he has simply outstanding vaal rhebock. I shot the number 13 SCI with him and missed one at least an inch bigger. He also has outstanding kudu and all the other goodies in SA. He is a little more expensive then the package hunts but the quality of the camps and staff along with the exceptional trophy quality makes him well worth it.

What a small world Trapdoor! I have the hunting rights on the property that you shot your gemsbok on with Paul! Being a compulsive bullet digger, the skinning staff brought me your bullet, as I arrived there with another client about 3 days after you guys have left. I thought that you might be interested in seeing it. Unfortunatly I am too stupid to insert the pic here, so I will send it via PM. It retained 245.6gr of its weight. BTW, the bontebok that Paul orginised was also on that same property, but on the eastern side where it is more hilly.

You can also try Schalk van Heerden of Bush Africa Safaris. I've hunted three times with him and have been very satisfied. Given the trophy list you posted, you may have to do some traveling around, I think.

I would recommend our own AR member Brad Rolston. You can reach him at 585Rolstonae@iafrica.com. He will make arrangements for sightseeing, touring, shopping, etc. in addition to any type of hunting you are interested in: dangerous, plains, etc.

Andres,

You have been given some very good advice. You've also been given, undoubdtedly well-meant, very poor advice. Please PM me to sort which is which.
