Rikhoff, J. HUNTING THE AFRICAN BUFFALO Limited trade edition (only 1,000 copies). 600 pages, almost 300,000 words(that equals 4 or 5 books today). With 48 lengthy stories about hunting the African buffalo, written by men who were, and still are, legends in the big game hunting field, and with line drawings by Guy Coheleach – no wonder this book remains a cornerstone of African hunting book collections. No other book, issued before or after, has ever come close to approaching the scope of HUNTING THE AFRICAN BUFFALO. One experienced hunter said, “You don’t get engaged to a Cape buffalo, you get married to him for life – his, or yours…for he believes that, when you hunt him, either you eliminate him or he will eliminate you.â€

The original edition sold out in six months and the price skyrocketed… that’s when you can find someone willing to sell their copy. We are justifably proud that the Amwell Press has selected Trophy Room Books as EXCLUSIVE distributor for this new limited trade edition. We recommend everyone read this book, for it is about one of the most sporting game trophies in the world and encounters with the hardest game animal to stop when he’s set his sights on you. We guarantee that many stories in this book will make your heart pound a bit too.

Sure, other animals are touted as more dangerous, more beautiful, more graceful, and many are more difficult to collect on safari. But the African Cape buffalo stands out because he is both big and bad, cunningly smart, and a formdable adversary. As someone once said, “He wakes up mad in the morning and his temper deteriorates all day.†We are certain every reader will consider this one of the great hunting books. But then, when you’re dealing a singular association of big game hunters who have made their marks on early and recent hunting history, well, you have the deck stacked. The buffalo exists in larger numbers than all other members of the big five put together. Long may he live.

This is a good one... and I've already ordered mine!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

That looks like one good book.

Think I will drop a hint or two with the wife and see what happens.

Hell with the prices headed for the sky in East Africa this may be as close as I get! Smiler

Thanks for the heads up!

Best Regards,
Dave

If you can stomach doing business with Ellen Enzler-Herring. I used to buy from her years ago. Greedy, with an abrasive and unpleasant personality. I buy my stuff elsewhere.

That is a great price for that book. The few copies I have seen for sale of the first buffalo book were $700 and up on the secondary market, same for his elephant book. I was able to get his Hunting the African Leopard and Hunting the African Lion for about $300 - $400 each, and you don't see many of those around. He was supposed to come out with the last of the series, Hunting the African Rhino a few years ago, but I never have seen a copy of that one, so I don't know if it was every published. Rikhoff's books are big and thick, and have a lot of good stories that go into great detail about hunting the animal. Thanks for the heads up, this will probably be the only chance to get a copy at a reasonable price.

It would appear one party or the other has been reading too much Africana and are now acting like a political cat from Africa.
I got the email as well.

Not sure what that means. I suppose I will be looking for the email to cancel my order as well but I haven't gotten it yet. Matter of fact, I had to email them to verify they received my order and they wrote back and said all was well but this was yesterday.
