If RIGBY back before WWI released the rimless 416, which they did, and this 500/416 rimmed cartridge on the same day/date what would people be saying about the rimmed version right now?

As other AR posters have suggested, and I will state, In the overall scheme of life from a reloaders standpoint it does not matter which Nitro Express cartridge from 450/400 to 475 No2 you reload for. All the cases will reload ok.
There are some advantages inherent to some cartridges, ie:
The 450/400's have the least recoil, the 450's have the widest bullet selection, the 470 is the most popular cartridge in todays world, the others usually have lower prices for the rifles than the 470, except the 500/465 which is usually offered only in top quality name brand rifles. The 500/416 has the advantage of a
common US bore diameter, bullets are avialable any where [bullets not loaded rounds].
The quality of the gun and how it fits you is more important than calibre.

IMO, it would largely depend on which one the two Harry Selby used and subsequently the one Robert Ruark wrote about.

The other one would be as dead as the 416 Rigby would have been without Selby & Ruark.

I think it would be held as the great all time all round classic.

Nitro

Would you then consider the Krieghoff Double Rifle with a detachable scope in 500/416 the Ultimate African Rifle?

Mickey1,

Based on the response from NitroX, you asked him if a KREIGHOFF SxS with detachable scope in 500/416 would be the ULTIMATE AFRICAN RIFLE. Why is the brand KRIEGHOFF important in your question? SEARCY does this package you described and I THINK other makers do also. Respectfully I ask, would you agree now that the rifle BRAND is NOT an issue in your question?

It is a comment on Krieghoffs. Nitro has always thought very highly of Kreighoffs and has wanted one for a long time..

There are many double rifles available and each has it's good points and bad points. It is the buyers decision which he likes and which he doesn't.

The 500/416 Krieghoff does have some things going for it.
As it is a new double rifle It is not hard to find like an original British gun. [Same can be said of the Searcy]. The Krieghoff can be ordered scoped.
The Krieghoff has a cocking device so when you are walking around the rifle is not cocked. Some people like this feature. It is very safe.
With a little practice speed with this system would not be a problem.
Also the Krieghoff is more [much more] affordable than an original British double.

Krieghoff doubles can be fitted with 20 ga shotgun bbls and lighter calibre rifle bbls.
While I am a big fan of original British doubles the Krieghoff does have a lot to reccomend it.
The 500/416 I shot, and saw others shoot was a tac driver.
