I received this from my Chicago Chapter President.

June 29, 2005

Attn: SCI Chapter Presidents

Subject: Improprieties in shipping charges on trophy shipments from abroad

SCI Chapter Presidents,

Safari Club International headquarters would like your help to shed light on a situation that has been brought to our attention regarding improprieties in shipping and handling of trophies taken abroad. Reports have shown that hunters are being charged large amounts for undefined services and egregious shipping charges. It appears these issues are becoming common practice and SCI would like to take an opportunity to investigate deeper to determine if there is a need to request action with local officials. If you have instances to report please give as much detail as possible. Please submit your responses to my assistant Jeannie Morales by email at jmorales@safariclub.org. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Tom Riley

Executive Director

Safari Club International

Sadly, that applies to ALL of us as SCI members.

I still have not heard a word of how SCI helped their members get either their trophies or money out of van Der Mullen, their PH Of The Year award winner who disappeared with many hunters money.

They are not wrong. Some of the charges are just pure-bullshit and just a way to fleece more dollars out of you. Usually there is nothing that can be done at that stage unless you kiss good-bye to the whole shipment.
