I have some awesome Sable on the Seleti in RSA, thats a fenced ranch of some 75,000 hectors plus.

Zimbabwe is also good for Sable, and we have shot some huge Sable their, several places come to mind, the Metetsi, Doma, Chinhoy....However it may be that the bush market has hurt the Doma area, I have a film with over a 100 Sable bulls in one bunch that I took at Chinhoya in 2000, but things are changing fast in that area.

Zambia has produced some record book Sable, Balla Balla who posts here could give you a great Sable hunt..

depending on where in mozm. there are roosevelts sable there which look much like common, but smaller. Matesi in zim has always been the spot to go, but the squatters have taken much of it over. I got a 46" there but its been a while ago. I believe that if I could find a good spot, zim is by far the cheapest, otherwise it would be zambia

Dave,

Unquestionably Tondwa in Zambia. Reasonable expectations are a 42" and a client took a 50" there last year. I personally will be hunting that area in Sept. '07.

Call me if you'd like details.

I hunted in Matetsi 6 several years ago and the place was over-run with 40"+ sable.

Buffalo and elephant come across the border from Botswana for water and with the buff come lions and we saw quite a few (no quota left)..lots of 40"+ buffalo also. Elephants were quite big.

I don't know what it's like now but if it hasn't been over-hunted It would be hard to beat for buff, leopard, lion, elephant and sable....and the camp, on the Zambezi, was beautiful.

Don't be saying that about Matetsi, have you been there in the last 2 or 3 years? I was there last year, saw 40+ Sable every day. And you know what, didn't see one squatter!

When I'm ready for Sable, which could be as early as next year, (permits avail.??) that's where I'm going!!

Matetsi 6 is a government area and should have no attraction for a squatter since there aren't any farms. There also isn't a large vareity of plainsgame mostly sable, waterbuck, zebra, kudu and impala. My concern was how well they are holding to a reasonable quota and not over-shooting the place.

Hi DD:

I hunted a ranch called Durshano in Zimbabwe, the Sable were like rats, all over the place. I took a 42 in Sable the first day.

But trophy fees are now in the $3000.00 to $3500.00 range from what I hear...

Regards... Jim P.

If you can afford it go to Zambia, I saw honest 46 inch sable in Mulobesi in 2000. The bad part is the cost, to upgrade a buffalo hunt we were looking at four more days, 5000 dollar gma upgrade and a 3000 dollar trophy fee. I ended uo shooting a 39 incher in zim for 2200 dollars. So if you got the cash go if you dont go to Matetsi.

When I hunted Matetsi block 1, there were big ones everywhere. I got a 43 1/2 without a lot of work.
