Mac, Great pics and once again a very beautiful roan in addition to your other trophies. How were you routed to get to Garoua from the states? It seems you missed the Cameroon experience of being stranded by the charter service. Regards, Mark

Finally got my pics from my recent safari in Cameroon. All game was taken with a Remington Model 700 Classic chambered in 375 H&H. The rifle was topped with a 1.5x6 Bausch & Lomb in Leupold quick etach rings. It was shooting a handload of 72.5 gr of Win 760 powder and a 300 gr Woodleigh soft point. This is a big Western Roan I took on Mar 03 2004. He has horns of 30 and 30 1/2 inches with 10 1/2 inch bases. Very old animal. Taken at about 250 yards. This was the biggest roan we saw, but we saw over 200 of them on the hunt. Different picture of the same roan. Ain't he something? This is a Nigerian Bohor Reedbuck. His horns are about 9 1/2 inches with good mass. He was taken with the same rifle as the roan. This is a pretty good Oribi. His horns are right around 6 inches in length. Taken witht the same 375 mentioned above. This is a decent Western Hartebeest. It's got about 23 inch horns, but doesn't have much mass. I took it right at dark with the 375 and actually thought it was better than it is. But, that's hunting. A mature male olive baboon. The outfitter wanted to thin them out, so I had unlimited shooting on them. This hunt was booked through Premier Safaris and the actual outfitter was Ngong Safaris. The hunt took place north of Garoua Cameroon. This was a huge government concession. No game fences. Strictly free range on all game. We saw many Roan, Hartebeest, Reedbuck, Oribi, Duikers, Warthogs, Baboons, a herd of Korrigum and several herds of Lord Derby Eland. If you want a classic safari in west Africa, I don't think you can go wrong with Ngong. They have been 100% on Lord Derby's and also 100% on Bongo. This outfit has game beyond belief. I think your oribi and hartebees look a lot alike ;-) Do you happen to have slightly bigger pictures? It's a bit difficult to see the details. Frans

Nice, nice, nice. All those that think the .375 is too much gun should take notice.

MAC that is a wonderful Western Roan. How did you like your Woodleighs? were they the pointed or RN? Could you give a brief description of their performance?

MAC, Those are some great looking animals. Looks like you had a pretty dull trip. I can see where those baboons get their name. Sevens

Mac, Congratulations of some fine trophies. I am a big fan of Woodleigh bullets too since I am from Oz. It doesn't hurt that they cost the same as Hornady Soft Points here. I've found the same thing regarding accuracy. Did you recover any projectiles or did they fully penetrate? I also use W760 for my 375 H&H. Have you ever chronographed your load of 72.5gn of W760 with the 300gr? Mine does 2650fps with 78gn which is a max load. I may try to get an accurate load at a lower charge level. Regards JohnT

Great Western Roan! It is neat to see how it differs from the Southern flavor I shot last year. 250-yards at 6x, that's a nice shot too. Congrat's. Is that the PH in the second picture? How would you compare the overall experience and traveling to southern Africa?

Thanks for all the nice comments about the roan. For everybody that has asked, the contact info for Ngong Safaris is through Charlie Goldenberg of Premier safaris. His e-mail address is premiersafaris@att.net. The website for Ngong Safaris is www.ngong-safaris.dk. If you get ahold of Charlie, tell him you got the info from Tom Cacy. This is an outstanding safari area. No air charter is required. You fly into Garoua Cameroon via Cameroon Airlines and will be met at the airort by a representative of the safari camp. Camp is within a 2 hr drive of the airport. This saves a bundle of cash by eliminating charter fees. There is no comparison between this hunt and one on a ranch down south. I've hunted several game ranches down in RSA and have had good hunts, but this is better. This will not be a high volume shoot like in RSA, but the experience is much better. I don't believe there is anyplace other than this where you can see the numbers of quality Roan antelope on a daily basis. I saw bulls better than 27 inches every day! And not just 1 or 2, there were herds of Roan running around. Charlie told me that there are trophy roans dieing of old age and I really didn't know if he was being truthful. I can nor testify that it ani't no lie. This place in incredible!!! I don't have anything to gain by giving this info out, but I figure some of you might want to experience this. PM me if you want some specific info on the hunt such as costs etc... Cheers Mac
