This summer some friends will be accompaning me to Botswana. While I hunt, they will be taking photos with a seperate guide in a seperate vehicle, probably in a different area. I've been there done that with a Ph but what does one tip a photograpgic guide?

Terry,

I look at it this way...I am paying for a service..One knows what they will provide, and if they are trying harder to make one comfortalble and to get the photo with proper location and making all available happy with their work...Yes they deserve a tip and that will be up to you to give what you think they deserve...
My friend was up in Tanzania for a photo safari...8000 photos later

Terry,

Based on a Google search, this is from two different photo safari companies in Botswana. It appears that the tips mentioned below are per person/per day on the safari (each person on the safari should tip the driver $5-$10 for each day and each person on the safari should put $3-$5 in the camp tip pool per day and maybe $2-$5 per day for the tracker/spotter that goes along with you on the game drives).

Guides - US$5.00 per person per day
General Camp Staff - US$3.00 per person per day
Specialist Guides (if applicable) - US$10.00 per person per day
(This is the suggested gratuity schedule only and is subject to service standards).

Our general recommendation is to tip moderately - in accordance with the level and quality of service provided. The following guidelines are generally accepted practice (per person): Safari guide(s) - US $5 -$10 per day; Camp staff - US $3 - $5 per day, as a pooled tip to be shared among the housekeepers, waiters, bartender, etc.; Driver/guides - US $2- $5.

Regards,

Terry
