Charitable causes on AR?

Infinito Safaris decided to donate 10% off all trophy fees paid for on our "competition hunt" to an AR charitable cause of the hunters choice.

I was so moved by all the entries and also during the year hunters reaching our to others in need that I was wondering what structure there might be in place for an even bigger event?

And who runs and manages it?

I have decided to offer 3 prizes this year to boost the support of these causes and help folks like Stu Taylor (which I do not know personaly at all). But where can hunters look at all the fund raisers running in one place, and who keeps an eye on them?

This is a Bona Fide calling for a forum where we can list these causes and look after our own a bit?

Saeed is this possible? I know each and every "charity" are run according to legal lines and standing in the countries that they are operating in, BUT there must be a way that we can channel the do-gooders money to the right people?

I am aiming to donate at least $1,000.00 from my company to a cause this season out of donated hunts, and it will NOT be for one of the the "big" organisations, but for folks in need on AR. This is above and beyond the saving to the hunter for taking this hunt.

+1 we started a Wounded Warrior elk hunt last year and are planning a second in New Mexico. We have started an approved foundation to support them. I too would like to start a strand to exchange information, outfitters, etc.

Sounds like a good idea. I suggest that what ever group or individual coordinates and accepts the money from the donations be someone with the highest integrity and be held in the highest regard on this forum. I would nominate Saeed for this role as I believe we all hold him in high regard and trust him.

Gentlemen,

The idea is great, but administering it is not going to be very easy.

For practical reasons, this should be set up in the US. As most of the hunters and I presume donations are going to come from the US.

Even that is not as easy as it seems.

I know others are trying to do this in a legal and acceptable manner, but it seems to be taking a rather long time.

I am sure this not due to their efforts though.

BigBear is the man to talk to.

Very admirable Charl.

The Boddington Fund already have all the requirements/red tape etc properly organised & their criteria is pretty much what you've outlined so how How about just donating it to them?

Thanks for mentioning this Steve.

+1 for Something More Safaris and the Boddington Fund.

"We were fortunate to meet Dave Dunn and his team at Something More Safaris, a unique organization dedicated to adding good works—“something more”—to a hunting adventure. Working together with Something More Safaris, we are working to create “The Boddington Fund,” the sole purpose of which is to provide assistance to hunting professionals who are injured “in the line of duty.”

Thanks for all the positive interest. I have no idea who Blank is but I have to say Paul Reed and I have had many discucussions with Dave Dunn of SMS and it is important to note that SMS is not going to be our charter for Professional hunter relief so I am not sure what Blank is referring to. We are working agressively to get the legal structure set up to do this but I have to agree with Saeed that it is taking longer than we would like. We hope to have this set up in the spring. Steve (Shakari) I know this has probably all changed since we talked but SMS and the Boddington Fund has officially decided that this is not the charter of SMS. We are all still in contact and certainly suppportive of SMS but the PH relief fund will be driven by a different faction.

Hi All,

I would like to add to Larry’s (BigBBear) post with some additional information regarding SMS/Boddington Fund and the new venture which will be known as The Professional Hunters Relief Fund. We are actively working to set this up as a charitable organization to take advantage of the tax favored aspects, but as Larry and Saeed note it is tedious and challenging. We hope to have the organization up and running in just a few months. We will keep the Forum updated on our progress.

Larry and I were active with the SMS organization and have spoken at length with Dave Dunn (SMS Chairman) over the past months and we all agreed along (including the financial/legal experts advising SMS) that a new organization was the best course of action. The primary reason for creating a new organization was simply to avoid jeopardizing the original intent and organizational proposals that were submitted (and subsequently approved) to the IRS during the creation of SMS. Larry and I still strongly support SMS and their activities but it was agreed between us that we should proceed with a new organization. Without going into too much detail, in short SMS was created to help a broader range of people in need and cannot direct funds or help to individuals as it was set up. In contrast, the new fund will have the ability to focus funds in a more directed manner specifically to those workers in the safari and hunting industry.

There is still a significant amount of work to get done but Larry and I are committed to bring this to fruition and find ways to help our colleagues in the hunting and safari industry in time of need…we had no better justification for this than the unfortunate incidents of injuries and death in the past safari season.

If you want to help or would like more information please feel free to PM Larry or I.

Thanks
Paul

Thanks Paul for posting some more info. I was in a Duck Marsh at Currituck and for some reasons the internet is tough out there

The key to my message was just to let you all know that we were now working on a different avenue than SMS. Their mission is still valid and a good one and so as not to confuse the two we decided to start a new org and are in the process of doing so. Charl, we had hoped to get it all done and roll out at the shows but Paul and I are both working to figure out a retired life and what is next in that it is coinciedental that we have this in common. All of the ideas that come forth are good ones and either of us can discuss with you at length. I will actually be overnighting in Houston tonight on my way to a warmer vacation so please feel free to call me. I will PM you my direct contacts and I think Paul has done the same for his. Unfortunately, neither of us were planning on coming to the shows this year. What we have done so far is had lots of dialogue with numerous guys on here and expect some engagement from Aaron Nielson, Dave Fulson, Ivan, Greg Rodriguez, etc. who have all expressed some level of interest in what we are doing and want to help promote the effort. Paul and I are both eager to solicit and receive help so please PM either of us if you or anyone else reading this wish to engage.

Thanks again for your interest,

Larry
