Eland / Bushbuck safari
It is time to get serious about 2012.
I want my next safari to center around Eland tracking and Bushbuck. I would prefer it take place in a DG area. Sorry RSA outfitters, i am going to visit a different country this time around.

Any suggestions?

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Does it have to be Eland? Can do virtually everything else. Luangwa has some terrific Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Kudu, Puku etc.

I planned and did this very hunt in RSA (Cape Eland and Limpopo Bushbuck), Northern Cameroon (Derby Eland and Harnessed Bushbuck).
I enjoyed these 2 so much that I booked the same type in Tanzania (Patterson's Eland and Masai Bushbuck) and the following year in Zim. (Livingstone's Eland and Chobi Bushbuck)

We must be smart since we agree. Go for it.

Thunder Head,

I guess I wasn't clear. I did this hunt in RSA and Cameroon. I go to Tanz this year and Zim the following. I will be in Zim with HHK.

Strikes me as a bit of an odd couple. Prime Eland country is arid. Prime bushbuck country is riverine bush. Yes, there are places where both occur naturally, but the eland are usually thin on the ground in these areas. Then there are places where both occur "unnaturally", and that's not to my taste.

I can tell you where to find superb Bushbuck in Zim, and you will also find your Eland, but you will have to track him down as they are not dime a dozen. On the plus side, this is dramatic country, mighty "African" scenery, so walking for days is fun. And there's plenty of other stuff to shoot (Waterbuck, Klipspringer, Leopard, Impala, Warthog, BWB, Zebra, Giraffe, Grysbok, and Baboons). You will bump into elephant daily and rhino every other day. You won't pay DG rates for this hunt though, and you won't have to charter in.

The other spot I can recommend is prime DG country. Bushbuck plenty. Eland not so plenty. More expensive than option A but you will see more DG ... many buffalo, elephant, some lion, and leopard of course. No rhino. You will charter into this one.
