Thought my middle son was going to cry! He's passionate about bow hunting, and he watches Tim non-stop. Regardless of what you think about Tim's style, he's an incredible shot with a bow. Glad he's OK.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

I wish Tim a speedy recovery as well and I hope that a lesson can be learned from this incident.

He was so damm lucky!!If that blade had severed his femoral artery he would have bled out WITHIN MINUTES because of what he did right after getting hurt...which brings us to the SECOND DUMBEST thing that he did that day!

What did he do immediately after getting a spear blade clean through the thigh?? He gave an interview! Didn't he (or you!) have even the most basic knowledge of First Aid?

It was pathetic to see that after sustaining a potentially life threatening injury, far away from medical attention, that he did not treat himself by using his shirt to bandage the wound in order to stop or even slow the bleeding.
It was ridiculous to see Tim sitting there talking and playing with blood flowing out of an open wound for camera pity so that he will have a nice episode for his show when he could have died right there. I would be embarrassed to air that.

Guys, have a plan! At LEAST learn CPR, how to maintain an airway, control bleeding, immobilize, neck/spinal cord injury. Treat heat cold injury's. Just some basic stuff.

Even if Tim severed his femoral artery, if he acted quickly enough, he could have slowed or stopped the bleeding by putting a tourniquet between the wound and the heart.

Rubbing/playing with the bloody wound was something that he should be embarrassed over and should not put that on an Episode unless it comes with a, "This is what I did which could have killed me, and this is what I SHOULD have done."

Over many years on the street when I was a Cop, I have had MANY people shot and/or stabbed in vital areas who LIVED because first responders knew what they were doing and provided immediate treatment at the scene before taking the victim to a hospital.

Word to the wise, BE PREPARED. Think about the victim being your child!

As Nhoro pointed out, his little boy watches Tim's show. If God for bid an injury occurs, is this what you would want a little boy to do?

FWIW: I like Tim as a TV Personality and I really enjoy his show, so I am NOT posting this to smear him in any way but since we play with guns and sharp things in wild places, so if one person gets a wake up call from this post then I've done a good thing!

No offense Tim....maybe you didn't know better but you sure learned the hard waySmiler

So I guess you should bring a tourniquet when you go spear hunting? Why is he talking instead of saving his own life? Unbelievable. Am I supposed to be impressed? Anti's will love that and be cheering for the spear. I assume he lived through this. Is this an AR member? Jeez never seen anything like it

I don't carry a tourniquet, that's what a belt is for. But on all of my far away, middle of fuckin nowhere hunts, I do carry Quik Clot pads in my duffle. Seriously, you never know...

I forgot to add that! Quick Clot is revolutionary and should be carried by everyone.

Do something other than sit there like an idiot and babble!

I am also surprised that his PH left him there like that without treating him. If the PH didn't know any basic first aid then shame on him too.

The mil spec tourniquets are pretty handy as they are one handed. But I agree a belt would work and not have to sit there bleeding out on TV Wink Although I think that was the point. Quick clot and tampons are nice to have too....Looks like he could of shoved a tampon in that hole....Just saying

In the video he said he was fighting shock. In reality he had already entered shock and that is a big part of why he didn't act rationally and treat himself when he should have. It shows "hours later" and he still did not use an expedient pressure dressing or anything else to slow down or stop the bleeding.

A sure recipe for death unless rescued in time. Generally I would hope to be a bit more proactive than that. Although if he died on screen he would probably get a big ratings jump, but probably not worth it.

Dead people get famous, dumbasses are just that.
After this episode, I'm done with that nonsense

This is the best $8 you can spend. Buy one (or more) and keep it with you in the field. It's compact. It's lightweight, but very durable. No excuse not to have one on you at all times in the field. I keep an extra one in the first-aid kit in my truck.

I'm a physician and I think this piece of gear can save a life in a situation like this. I also think the fears of permanent limb damage from ischemia (lack of blood flow) from a tourniquet are over-hyped. During any major orthopedic procedure on an upper or lower extremity, we use tourniquets to limit blood loss during the procedure. Each person is different, but tourniquet times can be measured in HOURS, with the occasional loosing to allow some blood flow to tissues after the first hour. Most folks can reach emergency medical treatment prior to irreversible damage from a tourniquet takes place. Just note the time the tourniquet is placed.

Guys.. Please.
As Matt noted, this is a TV show.
If you were seriously hurt, would you give an on camera interview? to a non-existent cameraman (supposedly, he was hundreds of miles from civilization) rather than getting help?
Tim is the same guy who chases, and finds, Bigfoot and Yeti's on camera.
Relax.
Its today's "reality" TV!!
