Just got this from my bank and thought I would pass it along as a heads up:

"Effective October 30, 2022, you'll need to provide additional information for wire transfers to recipients in Mozambique.

We noticed you have one or more international wire recipient(s) set up in online banking with account(s) located in Mozambique. Mozambique is now requiring that all incoming wires to recipients in Mozambique include the Tax Identification Number (NUIT– Numero de Identificasao Tributaria).

Because this requirement was not in effect when you set up your wire recipient(s) in online banking, future transfers to the recipients in Mozambique that you have previously set up in online banking cannot be processed and these recipients will be removed from your list of recipients. If you no longer plan to send wires to these recipient(s), there's nothing you need to do.

To continue sending wires to recipients in Mozambique, you'll need to add back your recipients and include the Tax Identification Number (NUIT– Numero de Identificasao Tributaria). Please contact your recipient(s) to confirm this information."

I view this as just one more reason for your PH to have a bank account in another country, and I’m guessing many do just that.

This is one reason to use an agent to whom you send funds for him to hold on your behalf and send onward to the PH when appropriate. It doesn’t make the issue disappear, but it’s no longer your problem and chances are the agent sends funds often enough that he’s got all the required information as part of his regular business practice.

With the two operators I have dealt with in Mozambique both had US banking arrangements. Very easy for me to handle all funds that way.
